A Liberal senator’s wife accused of creating a disturbance on an airplane and uttering threats against her husband was forced to return to court Monday — the couple’s wedding anniversary — just moments after being released on bail.

Police were called to the John G. Diefenbaker International Airport around 8 p.m. on Thursday, where they took Maygan Sensenberger, 23, into custody.

<span style="font-weight: bold">She was released from custody Monday morning after spending the weekend in a jail cell on the conditions that she have no contact with her husband, 69-year-old Rod Zimmer.</span>



But shortly after being released on bail, Sensenberger was back in a Saskatoon courtroom to amend the terms of her release.

Sensenberger was to reside Monday evening at the ranch of Zimmer’s brother, outside Saskatoon, but she returned to the courtroom to request that condition be changed.

Judge Brent Klause agreed to the change, amending her release conditions so that she did not have to have a specified residence on Monday night.

<span style="font-size: 14pt"><span style="font-weight: bold">Sensenberger also expressed concern that she had no money to secure a hotel room, because she had been travelling with her husband and he had all the credit cards. </span></span>

Zimmer, a veteran businessman and fundraiser for the Liberal party, has been a senator since being <span style="font-weight: bold"> appointed by former prime minister Paul Martin in 2005.</span>

Zimmer’s age, told reporters the couple met on a blind date. “They’ve been together for <span style="font-size: 20pt">years</span>,” she said. “They waited until after she had her 21st birthday to announce that they were together.”</span>

Um. <span style="font-weight: bold">If you’re doing the math in your head right now, you’re probably marvelling at how she reached the legal drinking age in time to celebrate his eligibility to receive seniors' discounts.</span>



Of course, that’s not to say May-December (or February-December) romances don’t work. Actor Doug Hutchison, 52, and his teen bride Courtney Alexis Stodden married last year, when she was 16. They seem happy-ish. And the late Anna Nicole Smith and her husband J. Howard Marshall had a whopping 63-year age difference.

But it’s hard not to wonder what the dynamics of Ms. Sensenberger and Sen. Zimmer’s relationship are like. Wayne Zimmer’s comments to the press after escorting his young sister-in-law from court may offer a hint.

“She was crying, she was this and she was that,” he said. “She’s only 23, for God’s sake. What did you expect?”

As it is now coming out that he was involved with her when she was a teenager, he should be charged with statutory rape. Subpoena the girl's grandmother to testify. <span style="font-weight: bold">Lock him up and don't be nice about it.</span>

I wonder what he had on Paul Martin why he was appointed to the Senate and permitted to marry his child bride on Parliament Hill.
