I spend most of my lunch time listening to the Winston Barnes show heard between 12 noon and 1:00 pm. I am amazed at the things some people say and believe that can get them in all sort of trouble.

Awhile back someone claimed that he voted with a green card in local election and insisted that he can also vote in the national election. Mr Barnes and others tried in vain to convince some Jamaicans and others of Caribbean descent that this is wrong. Mr Barnes had to invite a lawyer on the show to explain that one of the reasons you get an American citizenship is so that you can vote.If you are not a citizen you cannot vote.

Sadly the persons who had their facts wrong, got the misleading information from WIKIPAEDIA.

Not entirely true. Some towns, such as Takoma Park, Maryland, passed laws where their residents, including non-citizens, can vote in local elections. Here

Democrat Voted Twice During Elections

Wendy Rosen
A Democrat Party congressional candidate dropped out of the race for Maryland’s 1st Congressional District on Monday, <span style="font-weight: bold">after it was alleged she voted in elections in both Maryland and Florida in 2006 and 2008</span>.

Wendy Rosen, 57, was forced out by members of her own party, who discovered the double-voting on Friday. <span style="font-weight: bold">Voting records show Rosen voted in the 2006 general election and the 2008 primaries in both states</span>. After bringing forth the allegations, Democrats notified prosecutors and urged her to resign.

The Cockeysville businesswoman confirmed her votes to The Baltimore Sun, saying that she was able to register in Florida because she owned property there and did so to help a “very close friend” running for the St. Petersburg City Council as well as vote on local issues.

<span style="font-weight: bold">Rosen went on to say that she did not remember how she voted, and declined to say if she had voted twice in the 2008 presidential primaries, “due to possible litigation.”</span>

But for many, the effort will have been a waste of time, caused by confusion and conflicting interpretations over how the new rules work.

When the window shuts at the close of business today, they will discover that learner's permits and state-issued identification cards they obtained can't be converted to licenses, as they thought.

&quot;There's no question there's mass confusion,&quot; said Kim Propeack of CASA of Maryland, the state's largest immigrant advocacy group.

<span style="font-weight: bold">For years, Maryland allowed undocumented immigrants to drive, but the system made the state vulnerable to fraud by out-of-state motorists. After rancorous debate, state legislators this year changed the rules to comply with the federal security law known as Real ID. As of Monday, license applicants will have to prove that they are in the country legally. Illegal immigrants already carrying licenses can keep them until 2015, after one renewal. </span>

Because of late-night changes to the bill on the final day of the legislative session, learner's permits and identification cards issued to illegal immigrants after April 19 can't be converted into full licenses, and licenses issued to them after that date can't be renewed. <span style="font-weight: bold">But under a ruling by motor vehicle officials Wednesday, thousands who obtained ID cards before April 19 will be able to use them to get licenses, a provision some lawmakers call an unforeseen loophole. </span>It took weeks for state officials and perplexed lawmakers to sort out what some of the changes meant, and they spread some mistaken information to advocacy groups, which in turn passed it along to immigrants. Many who managed to secure appointments for licenses this month thought they could eventually obtain a license if they beat the June 1 cutoff by getting a learner's permit.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Joseph Vallario (D-Prince George's County), an advocate for immigrants who served on the bill conference panel, called the situation &quot;an absolute mess&quot; and predicted that the legal interpretation &quot;may have to be decided by a court.&quot;

Meanwhile, immigrants have been crowding into motor vehicle agency offices and calling lawmakers and advocates for help. Spurred by advertisements on Spanish language television and radio, thousands spent the past six weeks trying to secure licenses.

Some were likely the victims of scam artists, telling The Washington Post they paid hundreds of dollars or more to agencies promising to arrange appointments. Others traveled far from their homes to various motor vehicle branches scattered across the state, hoping to land walk-in appointments.

Outside the Beltsville branch this month, Omar Berrillos, a 22-year-old illegal immigrant from Honduras, kicked at the curb, feeling the pressure of fleeting opportunity. He had taken the written portion of the test over and over, he said, but Berrillos, a construction worker who left school in third grade to pick coffee and bananas in rural Honduras, said the test simply moved too fast for him.

&quot;I always run out of time,&quot; he said. &quot;I only have a few more days.&quot;

Others, such as 24-year-old David Marquez, an immigrant from El Salvador, were coming to terms with the reality of a learner's permit that would never become a license. On Wednesday, three days before the deadline, Marquez passed the written exam -- on his fifth try. &quot;I'm not happy, but I'm not disappointed, either,&quot; he said. Still, with so much uncertainty, Marquez said he wasn't planning to get a car. &quot;At least I'll be able to drive if someone at my church needs me to,&quot; he said.

Picking crabs until their hands bleed in Phillips' sweatshops ? on the everlasting construction projects on the Beltway, Oh, and before I forget, your Trauma Center expansion ? And paying taxes every time they buy gas for the car, pay tolls and go grocery shopping ? Keeping the economies of Central America afloat with remittances and thereby helping to maintain social stability immediately south of the US border ?

Or was it some other group you had in mind ?

The annual outlay that illegal aliens cost U.S. taxpayers is an average amount per household of $1,117 dollars.

This updated study on what illegal immigration costs Maryland taxpayers includes the following findings:

The state’s taxpayers currently pay nearly $1.9 billion in taxes because of the presence of an estimated 295,000 illegal aliens plus nearly 68,000 children born in the United States to illegal aliens.
In-state tuition for illegal aliens in post-secondary schools will cost the state’s taxpayers more than $28 million annually under the 2011 legislation if approved by the voters. This cost to taxpayers will increase as more illegals aliens move to Maryland.
The average Maryland household headed by an American or legal resident shares an annual burden of about $910 to cover the costs of the state’s illegal alien population.
Because more than two-thirds of the cost of illegal immigration in Maryland is for education (see chart), and much of that cost is funded locally, the fiscal cost burden is heavier where the illegal alien population is greatest. Montgomery and Prince George’s county taxpayers have a greater than average annual burden ($1,420 and $1,025 respectively).
Illegal aliens pay relatively little in taxes, mainly because of their low earnings. We estimate that the state receives approximately $119 million in tax collections from illegal aliens — only a fraction the costs of illegal immigration borne by the taxpayers.
