I am surprised no one brought up the blatant rascism and condesension of the early bond films... Dr No... You only live twice...and live and let die...

There is one only bond I havent seen is The man with the Golden Gun.. And surprisingly given that Chrisopher Lee was the assain for hire Scaramanga (Swahili for soldier of god) was in the SAS in WWII....

Racism, sexism, condescension, you name it.A number of James Bond films have these issues. I don't care for either of the films with Famke Janssen with their simulated sexual violence. They really cross the line. Why bring it up again? This has been discussed to death over the last 50 years. To me the appeal of some of the films is the exotic locations and the fact that the novels were penned in Jamaica and the first film was shot on location there. That's about it. An appearance as a Bond girl can make an actresses career. Glad to see some Black women having a shot at this level of fame and fortune.

It is not unusual either for actors, black or white. It's the reality of show business. The majority of SAG members work less than that. Few earn a living that way.

Matthis was shot and placed in the boot of the Rover SUV.. the police stopped Bond.. Bond killed the two of them.... then Mathis drew his last breath and said Hold me.. Bond held him and he died.... Bond then took his wallet and dumped his body into a dumpster!!!

Jeoffry Wright is the greatest black actor USA has.... He does not get that many great parts.. Watch Ride with the Devil:: where he plays a slave....The first thing I saw him in was The Indiana Jones Chronicles where he plays Sydney Brechet.... And it stuck with me... Felix Leither..

He is the seacond black man to play it.... Bernie Casey did it in Never Say Never Again.... Joe Don Blocker also played it.. But one thing in the books Felix Leither looses an arm.. it would be interesting if they would do that in a film... Also the world weariness reluctance he displayed in Quantum of Solace, with the CIA being at cross purposes with Bond, compare it to when he introduces himself to Bond and hte support he gave to Bond in the card game! It struck me as two different characters...or the pathos was so good...

Still I loved in Casino Royale when the defibrolator did not work because of a lose wire!!!!

rewatched quantum of solace last night. i agree with all the critics who talked about the opening action sequence being poorly edited, too many fast cuts! but i got engrossed in the story, and finally figured out the mathis thing. so james bond wrongly accused mathis of being a double agent in casino royale?

i agree with you about the night and day characterization of felix leitner. i mean, he was so diminished in QOS, its like he never played any importance in casino royale. i didnt understand that part, even at the end, when i heard he had been promoted in the CIA, i was like, i'm happy to hear that, but what for? i'm hoping i get to see lots of him in Skyfall, which opens here on november 9 and which i will see opening nite come hell or high water.

not loving the extended sequences with M, judi dench is so short and matronly and always seems to be walking with a bunch of taller guys, i just can't find her believable. which is strange cuz she's a marvellous actress.

And I just don't want to do that... but mi might change mi mind doah... lawks, cyaa wait... considering that they're touting Skyfall to be the best Bond flic. Ever.

btw, just got through watching a series called 'Cranford' which had Judi Dench playing a really mousy self-effacing Victorian woman. She kinda sold me on the part, but I kept expecting her to start snapping at everyone in a very 'M' like manner... which goes to show that I find her very believable as M.... I think the fact that she's 'stout' and 'short' walking amongst tall men, but can issue a licence to kill, is a juxtaposition...

for judi dench the mousy role is the stretch. most of the other things i've seen her in she's played some kind of bossy/commander role. this includes her role as queen victoria in the movie mrs brown, and her role as the older wife in the tv show as time goes by. in quantum of solace i just got tired of her walking down the hallway with her gaggle of men, with her choppy stride - detracted from the characterization, imo. her scene giving orders while doing her facial cleansing, i did like that. and i much preferred the understated authority she carried in casino royale - mostly acccomplished by her standing alone in her office or with few people. also loved the scene in CR where she was interrupted at night with the latest bond crisis and they showed her lover sleeping while she took the call.

supposed to be going out with some school friends friday nite - one agreed to seeing the movie, still waiting to hear from the other one!
