PM Simpson Miller on dangers facing women and children6:58 pm, Thu September 27, 2012
Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller in her address to the General Assembly of the United Nations today urged member countries to confront the myriad of dangers facing women and children.
Mr. Simpson-Miller highlighted some of the problems including that of human trafficking, violence and other forms of abuse.
She added that it is disgraceful that at this juncture of world history there's the emergence of a form of modern-day slavery which renders women, girls and boys to be traded as chattel.
At the same time Mrs. Simpson-Miller says Jamaica is resolute in its commitment to strengthening local and national programmes to eliminate violence against women and children.
She called for the international community to take bold actions to address this scourge, adding that issues that affect women and children must be central to decision-making processes.
Prime Minister Simpson-Miller says she looks forward to continued collaboration with UN Women and the international community to help break the cycle of exploitation and insecurity.
