The first two pix are one car; the third pic is another car.
The third pic is the car belonging to the judge living two doors down from me.
The other car was parked across the street, visiting my neighbors therefrom Arkansas. The tree was my next-door neighbor's. (You can bet your last cent that the Arkansas visitors will NEVER AGAIN come to New Jersey; it was their first time here.)
This doesn't even take into account the other five cars on my block that were flattened by big trees. I didn't bother to post those pix. Why? You get the idea what it looks like here...
Anybody really wanna see my house? It's equally ugly. I'll post pix if you want to see. I don't care. It's not relevant any more. Superstorm Sandy raped New Jersey quite badly. All of us New Jerseyeans are suffering. Mercifully, I'm luckier than most. I still have power (never lost it) and my home is reasonably OK - just an unholy mess to clean up - and we're able to offer hospitality to my friends and neighbors who are less fortunate than we are.
Atlantic City is gone. It's just gone. Margate, Seaside Heights - all gone. No more. Brigantine, gone. Long Beach Island is basically underwater. It's all gone. gone. Nothing. As if it ever existed. Gone. The ocean just stole it all away, all of the south Jersey shore. Just all gone. It's shocking. One of my dearest friend's family's homes are all gone. Not even a matchstick is left of their wooden clapboard homes - not a splinter. ALL of their homes. ALL of them. Gone. Nothing, absolutely nothing, is left. Gone. My family summer house in Margate is gone. I can't even find where it was. The whole block... the entire neighborhood... t's all gone... missing... gone. The beach isn't even there any more. It's just a sand-mud mess of... nothing. It's all vanished, swallowed up by the sea. Gone. Just gone. I... I'm speechless. I don't know how to explain what I'm feeling.

The first pic is my backyard... near the house. (see the cellar storm doors)
The second pic is also my back yard... that's the corner of my garage in the lower left corner of the photo.
The third pic is taken while I was standing inside my front doorway. It was already getting too windy to stand outside. That's the infamous intersection out front... the one where people ignore that stop sign and keep on coming right across the intersection, and hit my house.
there are more pix taken after the storm, but I have to find them. Dunno where they went to? Maybe the storm too them away too... They are also gone. Just gone. Just like entire towns here in NJ, my pix are just gone.

We had lots of wind, downed trees in the area and on our street but minor damage to our fence that was all. Lots of downed lines and no power for 2 days.. Just got power a few hours ago and lost cell service (not sure what is happening with the ATT cell towers in the area).Originally posted by WitchyOoman View PostI'm so glad you were lucky.
In the northern section of our town, closer to the beaches and ferries, it was said firemen walked around spray painting homes as inhabitable

I don't know why my garage picture is sideways. It isn't in my computer files...
At least it's not just gone away. sigh
I don't know if I can handle this deep a shock. I probably need medical attention, but since I haven't got medical insurance... well, I can't afford an emergency bill, so I won't go get help. shrug
What a shock! I just keep crying. And shaking my head. And shaking. Everything is just gone.

Luckily, we kept power throughout, although we were just about THE ONLY home in Orange to have power. Public Service Electric & Gas can't explain it. If PSE&G can't... shrug Go figure.
We had a full house of folks needing heat, to recharge electronics, to cook & eat, etc. I'm so exhausted. And so shocked. So shocked.
We've had a lot of cell phone problems here, too. I have Boost, and it's been on again/off again. Sprint has been off for days AT&T has been off mostly. Verizon has been on and off and on and off.
Kia, have you seen any losses your way?

Trees, power lines, sheds.. on another street a huggggeeee oak tree fell on the house but the family is in the UK so they are safe. Have not been near the beaches.. Couple docks are out on the rivers, boats moved into streets.. but all is well
If I drive into certain areas I can get ATT service and was able to send text messages intermittently. Local supermarket was opened and packed.. Local gas station had a long line
What I found odd was watching a neighbor use a gas blower to blow leaves when there was no electricity.. My thoughts were fossil fuel abuse helped cause the climate change that created a storm such as Sandy. If you don't fight for what you deserve, you deserve what you get.
