Well, the political animals that we are, my best friend, "M" and I are, essentially, political Kingmakers here in Orange. Soooo... we've decided to provide the only storm victim relief in the city. Ourselves. On our own. From our own resources, out of our own pockets. It's the best we can manage.

I posted this on various online places (inc. FB) and about the city this afternoon...


"Witchy and "M" are very thankful to the Lord God for weathering Superstorm Sandy as well as we have!

We feel the suffering of our neighbors and friends, and want to help as much as our resources permit.

So, we cordially invite EVERY RESIDENT OF ORANGE to come to the Witchys' home at ### ABCDEFGH Ave between the hours of 10:00am and 4:00pm tomorrow (Saturday, November 3rd) for free hot coffee and (we hope) buttered rolls, and to bring all of their electronics for RECHARGING!
We will have a few chairs, but feel free to bring your chair also, and come sit and chat for a while. :-)

We sincerely hope to see you tomorrow!!"

I sure hope we have enough coffee... and butter and rolls... and whatever else we can cook up and provide...

I wonder how many people are gonna ask OUT LOUD at the next City Council meeting just WHY NONE OF OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS - CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS OR OUR MAYOR - did this? dwl

I wonder who's gonna remember this kind of thing in 2014? (when we next elect City council members)
Even if *I* choose not to run again, M & I will be running a candidate... maybe a full slate all over the city - who knows!

ACTUALLY... this worked out QUITE WELL!!!

We had hot coffee, buttered rolls, bottles of cold water, and plenty of freshly-baked cookies hot from my oven (chocolate chip, sugar cookies & oatmeal-raisin-cinnamon) on the front table. I had 30 live plugs for recharging electrical anythings on the table behind us. And someone passing by saw what we were doing on their way to a FEMA drop point, and sweet-talked bags of ice out of FEMA peeps to bring to my house, so I also had a huge cooler full of bags of ice (extra bags stored in my chest freezer 'til there was more space in the outside cooler - as bags of ice went) to give out. I had nothing whatsoever to do with the FEMA thing... dunno how that happened, innocent - lol... but it did get bags of ice into needy families' hands that weren't able to get to the FEMA drop point.

Now I'm sorry that I didn't also cook up a large pot or two of macaroni & meatballs... or some soup... or beans and rice... sigh
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, isn't it? sigh

I also wish like hell that I had the means to turn this project into a mobile project to take to the rest of the streets of my city. But I don't.

I wish the damn city did something like this. Our elected officials are NOWHERE to be seen or heard from. Nope. Not a freakin' peep. :-(

People came and sat on my lawn to 'jaw' (chat) just like used to be, before we all got too busy to do it. Naturally, it was noticed that my girlfriend and I were doing this out of our own pockets, but our elected officials weren't anywhere in sight. Not even to stop by here and say 'hello, I'm sorry but I, too, am without power at my home'... Nuthin'. :-x

We're considering doing this at the corner of Lincoln And Mechanic Sts (where my girlfriend lives - it's a low-income area, unlike my fancy high-falutin' neighborhood) tomorrow... WITH hot macaroni for a hot meal.
