NO SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE CONTAINED IN THIS POST AND I ASK THAT NO ONE ELSE POST ANY SPOILERS IN THE THREAD EITHER, IN DEFERENCE TO THOSE WHO HAVE NOT YET SEEN IT, SINCE IT ONLY JUST CAME OUT !!!!!


Just saw "Skyfall". I'm more than a bit... shocked??
I never though I'd see the day that the James Bond franchise would ROB other mega-franchises!! Wow!
This movie robbed...
"Silence of the Lambs"
"Harry Potter"
"Batman"
At least they're Equal Opportunity Intellectual Property thieves!! And proper 007 style: They did it without leaving any actual fingerprints. lol They just stole and disappeared into the night, like a ghost.. or like 007!

Was this movie good? HELL YEAH!! YOU BETCHAA!! ANd it still fitts into the Bond 007 universe. It was done in true Bondesque style. But instead of one plot for the entire movie - as has always been done before... this movie was really more of three "episodes" of ones story arc, much like a T.V. series story arc. Odd. I wonder why they did it that way??

saw it on Saturday matinee, after failing to get tickets for the imax one on Friday. not sure about the ripoffs of other movies, but it's the 50th anniversary of James Bond, so apparently there were tributes to previous JB movies scattered thruout Skyfall. i guess the true afficionados would be able to pick up quite a few of those homages, i got about 2 of them.

Saw it this weekend also. The villain was really good. He played the part well. It was good movie but I missed much of the "wiz bang" that past 007 had. The nice fast cars and gadgets. I did pick-up on the "throwback" stuff.

Every soul in the theater cheered when the garage door rolled back and... that perfect original Aston-Martin caame into view!

Well, first we all sucked our breath in, then we all let it out in audible sighs... and then we all whooped and hollered!

All you could hear was, "OMG! The Aston-Martin!"
If there was any movie dialogue, we all mijssed it.
all you could hear was, "LOOK! It's the original car - the Aston-Martin!"


And I was hardly the only one to cry... both at this ^ moment AND at it's... well... :-x
I sure did sob when it was... yeah, well... I really cried! He only thing that could've hurt me more was if it had been my beloved Babycakes!! *sobbing all over again*

Oh, NO! There were MANY!! So, SO many!!

But I'm a liffelong afficionado of James Bond 007, so... I got them all, i think.

I own all of the movies on dvd except for this one. Im sure this one will soon be on dvd as well. (cant wait1)

See 'No Country For Old Men'... he was just so...insidious... while in 'Love in the Time of Cholera'... he was just so...broken... he's very nuanced I think... cyaa wait!

As I mentioned I thought that acting would be first rate... but why the hell did they get M to recite Tennyson ??? Bardem was the greatest bond Villain ever, I thought ... All the bond villains were grandiose over the top reasons take over the world... hold the world supply in drugs, oil, terror... Here the bad man had a real reason...Personal Betrayal, revenge. Viserally understandable...The fact he had an Odieus complex to M. And saw her as a replacement mother.....
The identical was way that Bond did. But the child would not kill the mother, yet the mother readily would kill the child.

Barden plays it gay...may have tried to seduced Bond... bond reply he "how do u know it is my first time ?"... bond is bisexual!!!!!! Well he went to a public school and was a fag tjere !!!there are indications in feminist literature that Bond inability to commit is an indication of his sexual ambivalence!!!!


Bond was in fact fighting an earlier version of himself. His equal, older but bond is hampered as he is out of shape and survives more by luck than skill..Against the back ground of British poltics the films never emphersised as the books made clear Bond was half French/ half Scottish.. Scotland will be voting in a few years to break the union..., Bond is clearly back to the idea in the books, and one that the English dont admit Bond is Scottish like Sean Connery!!!! (Note the last two PMs of UK, David Cameron father born in Huntley Aberdeenshire, Gordon Brown : Born in Aberdeenshire, )


there is a constant question of immigratio, and the film makes it clear that Great Britain greatest Icon (article in the Economist stating that Culturally the UK is seen as the greatest nation in the world!not the US) is half French... Up u kilts !!!!! Wave a saltire.... The French betrayed us at Culloden, but htye gave us Bond!!!! (Waving my adopted home flag in pride!!!!

Alex Salmodn the leader of the SNP must be chocking on his haggis, Bond was born and raised in Scotland and when asked in a word association test Country- He says English..... aye right! When we do leave the union Bond is Joining the Scottish Intelligence Services.....not with the effiminate english..

Seriously though that Barden character was in MI6, makes interesting thought that a british agent is obviously latin...

In the books there is lots of reference's to the Bonds time in the far east, bond I beleive has a first in Oriental languages from Cambridge. (the location of the university may be Oxford!!!) and Bond Makes his bones I believe in the China Station.. so making the the back story



One last comment the idea of prussic acid, Hydrogen Cyanide in the tooth as a suicide pill, was always mute. when we studied posions a life time ago... (didn't every one ??? ) this question of would it be effective as a suicide pill... Bardem raises the question on its efficacy...


Moneypenny, miss Harris accent was alover the shop at one time she sounded posh like a Sloane Ranger, then a South Londoner then she sounded like who she was a black girl from Stoke Newington!!!!

I liked the fact the old DB 5 was blown up... loved the moment Bond met the new Q in front of that Turner painting in the national gallery (The Fighting Temeraire.) Bonds history as a Commander in the Royal Navy, and the passing of an era of warships.. The fact that Turner was a great influence on impressionists as well as post impressionists makes an inciteful of change ..loved the way they cut out the gadgetry . Q handed bond a simple tracker (from u only live twice, Goldfinger and then personalised gun again from Living Daylights).. The Bike chase was out of Tommorow Never Dies...( I fancied Michelle Yeoh....she has a honour from the Malaysian that makes her a Grandfather)...

I loved the fact they went back to the old offices;

Ralphes Finnes is now M. He is one of those great British actors... That will never be a star in the US but does great work. His cousin was the actor in Fallback the TV series . Great move, Dame Dench had a good run, she is a Burbon Drinker.. Terrible playing to the yanki market.. Next film let M be a Scotch drinker...... New Q is a serious nerd.... Love the stolen quote from the old Q about brning back the equipment in one peice...

And I forgot.... They filmed the Scottish Scenes in Glencoe... I bought "The Eye of Sauron" (new name for she whom all men fear), a Ladyship of the Manor of Glencoe as her birthday present... She was singularly unimpressed....

i also said that I thought Barden would have simply extended what he did from No country for Old Men...

the great quote "Dont you get tired from all this running around ?"..

Technical point.. the idea that a lake froze over night in Glencoe enough to walk on is neigh impossible! Not unless there was serious snow fall...

There is another referemce.. the William Tell moment.... That was in one of the books, man with the golden gun...

David thinks Skyfall is the best ever (there's a rumour that it will be a contender for best pic)... he asked me what my favourite part of the flic was and I said the first thing that came to mind: the shot of the stag on the pillar/post... he on the other hand, had so many 'favourites' about this film.

Gotta say I sat up and took notice when Javier began 'toying' with Bond... as he was tied to a chair... snap,,, and when Bond inferred that he may not be so in-experienced ... couldn't tell if he was just sayin' or if he really was just sayin'...

No memorable quotes from this flick though...

"Last rat standing!" i liked that line. The absence of Fellix Leiter is what made this film second to Casino Royale for me, too.

I agree, that shot of the stagon the post was awesome. I loooooved the shots of the Scottish landscape in general, it shifted the mood of the film so dramatically. i wished they had attempted to make a stronger link between Bond's nature and this environment he grew up in, although i did think i heard him say he hated his home...

i also loved the scene of the two men in suits fighting - bond and whatever other bad guy. somehow, the physicality was heightened for me -- seeing the suit pants strain across the thighs and the back of the jackets flying as they fought.... mmmmmm.....

another favourite scene - the girl (Serene?) - her utter terror as she spoke with Bond in the bar. My god i was so frightened for her. great acting.

loved this movie.
