i was wondering the same. everybody knew in the election what obama stood for and what his policies were, including obamacare. and he won the election. so how is it that he is "forcing" it on them? and if employers are laying off employees in order not to comply with something that obama was voted in for, how is that his fault? or that he is the cause of the divisiveness?

Everybody did not vote for him. The whole country is not behind Obama. The vote was very close. Those that voted against him despise his liberal policies. He is forcing Obama care and other liberal policies on half the population that did not agree with him...and they vehemently disagree with his policies. It's not just a small disagreement. It's more then anything that I've ever seen in the past. People are peeed off... this is just my take on the situation.
I would not doubt if you see more domestic terrorist nut cases like Timothy Mcveigh. I hope not, but when you have people this far apart in ideology, anything is possible...and even though I disagree with him, I hope his policies are sucessful as pertaining to getting the country back on track economically. If he is successful in that aspect, nothing else will matter, and things will take their own course for the better. People have a short memory if they are doing well and paying their bills.

However, overall President Obama not only won the electoral college vote but the popular vote as well by a margin of 50.6% to 47.8% across the United States.
According to CNN, the totals for each candidate were 62,604,855 votes cast for President Obama and 59,128,902 votes cast for Governor Romney, for a difference of 3,475,953 votes between the two candidates

But the truth is many Americans today feel lost and unhappy, threatened by unaffordable government spending, foreign threats and a collapse of traditional values — on gay marriage, for example. They believe Romney offers a route back to greatness and solvency.

Obama, for his part, says the state of America is not so bad, with the economy reviving somewhat, unemployment falling significantly — to 7.8 per cent in September — and exports booming, so the country should stick with what it has got.

But to many Americans, who see their children jobless, businesses going bust and government social spending at unsustainable levels, being ‘not too bad’ does not seem good enough. They yearn for something more.

A highly intelligent and decent Chicago academic, Milt Rosenberg, with whom I did a radio debate on Thursday night, brands Obama’s past term ‘a disaster for America’. The President has been stamped ‘disappointing’ by America’s media, and even by many of his own supporters

lone, that works the other way, too, doesnt it? if romney were elected, would you think it honourable for democrats to spend their time being divisive and trying to sabotage his program, knowing he had won the vote on his policies? that's the part i'm not getting...that under the terms of the democracy afforded the people, you, as a nation, don't work to undermine the results of a majority vote (as slim as that majority may have been). this really is about what is honourable behaviour, and what is respectful of the democratic processes that your country abides by.

Rich, If you have paid attention to anything I've said before the election, it was that I felt Romney was a horrible candidate. I did not like Romney or Obama, but the only thing people see is if I don't like Obama I must be a Romney supporter, but nothing can be further from the truth.

PS Take note, that the article is from the UK. I like to see how others view the US, sometimes it is a less biased view from abroad.

No matter if Obama or Romney won the presidency, their administrations would be the one under which China would overtake the U.S.A. as the world's biggest economy, expected to happen in 2015. All we are witnessing is the natural progression of the world economy.

Yep until the US does a paradigm shift and changes the way it thinks and seeks new opportunities to become great, they will continue to decline. The US has a lot of projects where they could help humanity and be world leaders but you & I know that isnt going to happen anytime soon
