Cops bracing for Jungle 12 violence KINGSTON, Jamaica — Following a shooting incident last night and the killing of a known gangster last week, police officers in August Town are moving to head off any possible reprisals in a section of the community known as Jungle 12. Police report that last night several loud explosions were heard in the Jungle 12 area, but it is not yet ascertained if anyone was injured in the incident. "Our information is that rivals crossed paths in a section of Jungle 12 and several shots were fired," a police assigned to the August Town Police Station told the Jamaica Observer this morning. The community has been tense since police shot and killed alleged gang leader Delroy Scott in a section known as Bedward Gardens two weeks ago. After Scott's demise the Police High Command warned cops who work in the St Andrew Central police division to exercise caution, as the threat level against them was high. The police suspected that Scott's cronies were hell bent on avenging his death. A week later gunmen pounced on a man identified only as 'Painty'. He was shot several times and died on the spot. Police say 'Painty' was an influential member of the Jungle 12 community and his killing has not gone down well with his cronies. "We know the area is tense as rival factions are battling for turf, but we are patrolling the area on a 24 hour basis and we are trying to ensure that the rule of law and order is maintained," a cop said.
