The Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ) is reporting that the country earned US $1.3 billion in foreign exchange from visitors to Jamaica between January and July this year
This represents a 3.6 per cent increase over the corresponding period last year.
Provisional visitor expenditure available for July showed a seven per cent increase over the corresponding period in 2011.
It resulted in Jamaica earning US 225 million.

people need to get a clear understanding of what all these numbers mean and who actually eating food.

bout outta di odda 1+ billion somebody else eatin food. and ousida the direct foreign exchange inflow there is alot of other commercial activity generated ..how much does that mean to people.

Possibly owning their own attractions and funneling visitors to them? Many are in the game long enough to see how it operate.
But let me say this a person whose mom sewed raffia patterns for years. Most oft he organized vendors are politically aligned to the Comrade Party. They will never do too much to innovate but sit and bellyache all day.

They watched as the InBond industry was practically locked up by the Pakistani and All-Inclusives locked them out of the their tourists trap.
All this while in the areas where they peddle their wars, tourists were being assaulted left, right and center. There are many things they could have done differently to either prevent the old trade from leaving or provide a new model designed to earn them money.
