1,000 Walmart protests across the US

A Walmart press release this morning downplayed what commentators have called historic strike actions by Walmart workers this Black Friday across the United States.

The release noted that “the same number of associates missed their scheduled shift as last year,” but hundreds of protests in 46 states beginning Thursday evening have drawn attention to the retailer’s poor labor practices while according to The Nation, workers struck at stores in Dallas, Kenosha, Wis., San Leandro, Calif., and Clovis, N.M. At least one worker went out on strike at stores in Ocean City, Md., Orlando and Baton Rouge. Rep.-elect Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) joined a Walmart worker as she walked off her job in St. Cloud.

Walmart stores rang up almost 10 million transactions from the time doors opened for Black Friday shoppers at 8 p.m. Thursday until midnight.

A Kansas crowd appeared to be baying for blood awaiting the Black Friday deals at a Victoria’s Secret store. NBC local footage shows the predominantly female shoppers pushing and screaming, while security guards hold them back and a store clerk begs for reason:

Man pulls gun on Black Friday line-cutter
San Antonio shoppers turn violent waiting to get into a Sears store

Black Friday got off to a rowdy start at a San Antonio mall where police say one shopper pulled a gun on another who punched him in the face while they were waiting in line at a Sears store.

Police Sgt. Rob Carey tells the San Antonio Express-News a man rushed into the store when it opened Thursday night to get to the front of a line, started arguing with people and tried cutting in front of them.

One man who got punched pulled a gun and that scattered shoppers, including the impatient line-cutter who took cover behind a refrigerator. Then he fled.

Carey says the man with the gun had a permit to carry the weapon and isn’t being charged with a crime.

if a tv is on sale for 50.00 on black friday and the rest of the year it's 1,000, me personally nah guh get it for the 50.00

and everybody know seh mi is a frugal person, but no sah. NOT ME

I would rather shop on line that stand in line.. I feel badly for people who had to give up their family time to go work at these places to support the people who wanted these items. I know people have a choice to work but in that level of retail it is mostly p/t and no benefits so it is not like dem really have a choice

Same here, I don't like crowds non at all worse when you include standing in line because I don't do that if it can be avoided
