A startling revelation was made at the general meeting of the St Catherine Parish Council yesterday that several restaurants were selling dog meat disguised as curried goat.
"It has been brought to my attention that with a shortage in the supply of imported goat meat, persons have resorted to selling dog meat in their restaurants," said Councillor Anthony Wint.
He said that a number of persons are complaining about the practice and that it is a very serious concern that warrants the intervention of the health department.
"Mr Chairman, it is not a joke. Many of the dogs that have been reported missing can be presented as goat meat," Wint continued.Council chairman Norman Scott on commenting on the issue said that the matter would be examined as it is quite serious."I will certainly ask that it be checked out as I would not want to buy a meal of curried goat when it is dog meat," Scott said. The councillors said it is hoped that the practice will cease as there could be health implications.
Meanwhile, health inspector Richard Baker in addressing the councillors said his department will continue to monitor public health issues.
