Who saw the movie "Lincoln"?
I'd like to discuss it with people who saw it. (Not with people who didn't see it. Those who
didn't see it can't discuss that which they did not see or experience. Period. End of discussion.)

I do not believe that it's out or order to request that this thread is a discussion about the movie - what
you saw, heard, experienced, while you watched the movie... and what you thought about it afterwards!

Long movie, Oscar winning performance by Daniel Day-Lewis. I liked it, Ms. Milo found it "dry". I probably would have been better off waiting for the DVD. I would have liked to see something about Lincoln's early life rather than have the movie focus on just a period during his presidency.

The first 5 minutes were electric..... Watch out for that British actor David Oyelowo..... I mentioned him before... He was tej first black actor to play a English Monarch in Henry VI

Daniel Day Lewis was mesmerising.. But David Oyelowo stole those 5 minutes...


The cast was brillant.. Jared Harris as General Grant....So another Brit playing a yanki... David Strathrain...

Tommy Lee Jones was his old cantanerous self.... Thoough his interpretation of Lincoln was worth a thought.. A film from on Thaddeus Stevens would be worth thinking of....Especially his connection with John Brown...Didnt know he had a black mistress...

I like the movie because it shows an aspect of yanki history that is often ignored....A fact that the North was not uniformly anti slavery..

I have the book thefilm Team of Rivals on my pad to read. the current Irish President of the USA O'bama read it before he took office...


I think that Sam Mendes who directed the last bond movie would be a better director....

I had heard that the yankis complained about Daniel Day Lewis portrayal of Lincoln was not manley enough. He was not Gregory Peckesque.. My image of Lincoln comes from two "non fiction" sources... The novel by Gore Vidal and the description of him by Flashman in Flash For Freedom....who flashman described as "an unusually tall man, with the ugliest face you ever saw, deep dark eye sockets and a chin like a coffin" and says, "just why I liked him I couldn't say; I suppose in his way he had the makings of as big a scoundrel as I am myself". I from Wikipedia,,,,,So I like what mr Lewis did!

But I liked the film...The myth of Honest Abe should get a battering!
