We've discussed this before, over the years: What if a J'commer passes away and we don't know about it? I mean, we're family. We really are family! Even those who fight like cats and dogs... do they not spend a lot of time here together, even if it's fighting? Is this not sibling-like behavior? (even if dysfunctional family behavior - lol) Would we not all feel badly if we discovered that some one of us had passed and we hadn't known about it? I know that we've discussed this before.
BUT... I nearly died last night. And now it's bothering me again. (for obvious reasons)
Those of unnu Friended to me on FB already may have read this, but not everyone here is Friended to me on FB... I am a Trustee of our public library, and our re-organization occurs next week. I am pretty certain of having enough votes to become the next President of the Board of Trustees. I have been lobbying very hard, and I am certain of more than enough votes to succeed. I have my Mayor's support, and I work very well with his Alternate, and I also work well with him. I work well with our attorney. One of our outgoing Officers did something stupendously stupid late yesterday afternoon that will open all of us - as a board and also individually - to litigation. SHE THEN PHONED ME TO TELL ME WHAT SHE HAD DONE. Now, understand, this woman is also a friend and neighbor of mine for 15 years... sigh. (My Mayor is also my neighbor; he only lives 4 houses away from mine.)
So, this other Trustee, an officer, phoned me and told me what she had done. My heart stopped for a few seconds. Literally. I swear it! I could not breathe. I could not speak. I saw little black spots. Finally, I could gasp air into my lungs and my heart started to beat again. I asked a few questions of her to ascertain how much damage had been done. I told her tersely that if I were she, I would call my family lawyer immediately and not even wait for morning. (It was about 5:50pm.) I then phoned our President - another neighbor who lives 'round the corner from me... and I choked out what had happened. My throat began to close up. I told her that I had to go and hung up on her. She must have called the Mayor's Chief-of-Staff - his Alternate on our Board - who called me immediately. By then I was having great trouble talking or breathing. It was a full-blown asthma attack. I haven't had a full-blown asthma attack in years and years! I'm not even on any medication for my asthma any more! The Mayor's Chief of Staff ascertained that I was home alone, and that I could not breathe, and she told me that she was calling an ambulance for me; she hung up (to phone 911). I barely made it to my front door to unlock it and leave it open. Our board President came screaming 'round the corner in her SUV to make sure that my dog was crated, knowing that EMS wasn't likely to want to enter otherwise. The Mayor's Chief of Staff had rushed from City Hall to my house with a police escort (it's only a few blocks but she wanted to get here faster than traffic & traffic lights would have allowed) to do the same - put up my dog (he's a pit bull/boxer mix). Since the girls and the cop arrived before an ambulance, the cop put out a second call for an ambulance - as I was quite blue and almost not breathing at all by that point... so the fire department sent out a fire truck with firemen/paramedics on it. The fire house is only 4 blocks from my house, where the high school is, and they arrived just as the ambulance arrived. I was no longer able to walk, by this point, and barely taking in any air, and extremely blue (so they said) - so they grabbed me and put me on a stretcher and I had no time to lock up my house or grab my pocketbook with my medical insurance card! The firemen promised to guard my house until my husband arrived home - he was due home any minute, actually... he arrives home about 6:15 most nights. My board President and the Mayor's Chief of Staff sent the firemen back to the firehouse and stayed at my house to guard it, and to await Mr Witchy... knowing he has a bad heart, and wanting to break this news to him as gently as possible, and willing to drive him to the hospital rather than making him drive himself there, if he wanted. Poor Mr Witchy drove up just as the ambulance was driving off with the lights flashing and the siren blaring - and he damn near had a heart attack as he realized that our front door was wide open and the fire truck was parked across our driveway and there were women he didn't recognize in the dark standing in our front hall! Naturally, all of my neighbors were outside, asking what had happened to me... Aren't we all fast? Aren't we all Nosey Rosies? I'd've been on any of my neighbor's lawns, trying to suss out the good juicy gossip, too; I admit it. dwl
I spent over 4 hours in East Orange General Hospital last night. They wanted to keep me overnight, but I signed myself out AMA because I know that my crappy insurance won't pay for that and I can't afford it. So, I went home.
Today, I am doing NOTHING AT ALL except resting & wondering this: What if I HAD died last night? Who of unnu would know it? Some of unnu would care and wish to know... How would you ever know? How would unnu know whatever had become of me? Mr Witchy doesn't know my passwords for FB or J'com... Mr Witchy doesn't ever use FB or J'com, even though he's got accounts that he's never ever used on both sites... he can't even remember his own passwords on either FB or on J'com. While it's true that I am permanently logged into both J'com and FB on my laptop - Mr Witchy doesn't know that!! It would never cross his mind to turn my computer on and attempt to use it! HOW would anybody know if I had died last night, unless they were local and read my obituary in the NJ Star-Ledger??? I have lots of friends across the world, whom I've met on the Internet, who would wish to know it if I died... what can I do to ensure that they are all properly notified??? Anybody come up with any good answers to this?????
