11-month-old boy chopped to death

A mother chopped her 11-month-old son to death in Annotto Bay, St Mary yesterday then turned herself over to the police in a bizarre case of infanticide that shocked the country.

Police did not name the mother, who is now in custody pending further investigations. However, they identified the baby as Lindon Madison.

Yesterday, the Jamaica Observer was told that the mother was transferred from the Annotto Bay Police Station to the Castleton Police Station which houses female prisoners in that parish.

The macabre incident occurred at the woman's home on Fort George Road, near Annotto Bay Primary School at about 6:30 am.

The woman lived with the child's father.

Police report that she arrived at the station about 7:30 am and told them that she had killed her baby. The police accompanied her to the house where the baby was found with multiple chop wounds. His head was almost severed.

The baby, who would have had his first birthday next week, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Detroit mother due in court in fatal stabbing of her 8-year-old daughter

DETROIT – A 26-year-old Detroit mother of five is making her first court appearance on a murder charge in the stabbing death of her 8-year-old daughter.Tameria Greene was found bleeding early Sunday on the floor of the family's apartment. Mother Semeria Greene was arrested and her four sons were taken into protective custody. Greene is due to be arraigned Thursday afternoon on felony murder and child abuse charges.
Michigan's human service director Maura Corrigan says family, friends and neighbors had complained to her agency about Greene's treatment of her five children. Corrigan says child welfare workers had tried repeatedly to remove them from Greene's care in the past two years.
Corrigan says a court denied the last request one month before Tameria's death. The girl would have turned 9 on Wednesday.

The observer reported that she had taken the baby to the police, but they sent her away... The man was distraut... and said he had kept her on her medication....
