Planning to retire abroad? Ecuador is the top spot for North American retirees, according to InternationalLiving.com’s newly-released Annual Global Retirement Index 2013.

This is Ecuador's fifth consecutive year at the top of the heap.

Ecuador - they have so much incursions there,
Mexico and Colombia - me neck back no sah, me sarrie, but no bra bra

malaysia - never knew it had such gorgeous beaches (but still nope)

panama - hmmm,

I don't know much about Malta except that english is spoken there. Mi too old to learn a new language. That is the only reason I would consider Malta over the rest.

Sadly, I've only visited one of the country listed and I wouldn't retire there. I heard Panama is a great place to retire. I would have to visit first.

Panama hav its problems tuh. Gang, drugs, military, crooked police. Same difference.

Spain would be great... I would go to the North West... Where my cousins Fidel and Raul are from.. it is green and has seasons and it rains...prices are cheap given the property collapase.. very good health care...

Malaysia wonderful place at the moment.. great food but there will be social issues in the future and it is getting more and more expensive...

Panama is for a young person!

Malta is a place that feels cuastophobic.. Even St Paul wanted to leave it!.. See waht Mary Seacole had to say about the Maltese....Great food...close to europe...

my neighbour ( trini) is building in Panama..they will be retiring there in a couple years he has been after me to go take a look. a few of his friends are also making that move.

Compry, what country did you visit? Who has been to Uruguay?

I visit Ecuador and Costa Rica. I liked Costa Rica and could see myself living there. Ecuador was not bad but did not have the Caribbean feel I would want.

Of those ten, Malta is most appealing to me.

Because I love to explore (serious wanderlust issues!) I just want to travel extensively and live in a place for a month or two at a time. So I plan to keep my base in North America somewhere and then walk bout.

Cost of living in Latin America is cheaper. I have been seeing the stories for the past 8 years on retirees moving to Latin America. They even give many of them tax breaks and citizenship. I am trying to remember the 60 minutes story I watched on a whole town taken over by Americans in a Latin American country. When we were in Costa Rica one of the towns we stayed you saw many American and Canadians. One of the locals mentioned that they own most of real estate in the town. Social Security is going to "pap dun" at some point so the money will stretch there...

expats usually a look sumweh warm, cheap, where dem pension can stretch, and somewhat safe.

mi nuh see how mexico end up on the list but based on some of the episodes mi been seeing of HHI, people still moving there

i would do couple months in most of those listed but not move there permanently.

other than a few on the list, I fail to see the "safety" factor that these expats so desire, but then again, most of these expats tend to be wide eyed and

them guh to visit couple times and nuh know what a clack a strike

most of these are "considered" developing countries with developing country issues, and mi would be too old (when mi retire) fi guh tek on dem deh problems pan mi head, as a resident, which is why I probably would not retire there. might as well mi guh back a ja, if dats the case.
