'SYTYCD' instructor Alex Da Silva sentenced to 10 years in prison for rape
Da Silva was sentenced to 10 years in state prison for raping one female victim and assaulting another with intent to rape.
Judge Kathleen Kennedy presided over the case and denied a defense motion for a new trial. She also ordered that Da Silva, 43, register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
There were also two additional female victims, but the jury was hung on four counts and Judge Kennedy dismissed the additional charges.
"[Da Silva] does not respect women," Kennedy said, adding that he "believes he is entitled to do whatever he wants when he wants."
In September, a jury convicted Da Silva of raping a 22-year-old woman in August 2002 and for assaulting a 25-year-old woman in March 2009, with intent to commit rape. Both victims were dancers or aspiring dancers who met him in his dance class.
Da Silva was arrested on August 18, 2009 and has been in a Los Angeles jail ever since, according to police records obtained by OnTheRedCarpet.com. He pleaded not guilty for all charges and accused the women of conspiring to extort money from him, noting that the women were from the same small town.
A statement on his website reads,"Once he completes the sentence, Alex will be required to register with police as a sex offender every year on his birthday for the rest of his life. Failure to do so could result in lifetime prison commitment. No person, regardless of whether he treated others kindly, fairly, or with respect, should suffer such terrible consequences for acts he is not guilty of committing.
Da Silva is best known for being a recurring guest choreographer on Fox's reality dance competition series "So You Think You Can Dance" and last appeared on the show in 2008. He started his career as a salsa dancer and instructor in the San Francisco Bay Area.

I didn't know about this either.
In August, another former "So You Think You Can Dance" choreographer and former "America's Best Dance Crew" judge, Shane Sparks pled 'no contest' to a felony charge of unlawful sexual intercourse with a 12-year-old girl.
The dance instructor, whose full name is Melvin Shane Sparks, was sentenced to 270 days in jail and avoided eight additional felony charges by making the plea deal on August 16, according to legal documents obtained by OnTheRedCarpet.com.
