I remember watching this with my kid who was only 6 at the time. Linford Christie was a really bad sport about his false start disqualification. Threw his track shoes in the garbage. He made a really bad impression.

ATLANTA, July 28— The electronic starting blocks were not responsible for the first of two false-start calls that resulted in the disqualification of Linford Christie in Saturday's 100-meter sprint, Olympic officials said today. And Christie maintained that the system was in error when it charged him with the second false start. Christie did not quibble with the first call, which occurred before the gun was fired and thus before the electronic blocks were activated. However, the false-start system, designed by the Swiss timing company Swatch/SMH Microelectronics, was activated on the second occasion because Christie left the starting blocks less than one-tenth of a second after the gun was fired. "There is some precedent for choosing that amount of time," said Bob Podkaminer, the assistant athletics competition manager for results. "It's about the same amount of time it takes people to react to something they see in the road and move their foot off the gas," he said. Christie insisted the system was wrong. "I felt that I had the perfect start," he said today at a news conference. "I went with the gun."
