On this day in 1909, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was founded. Its founders included notable civil rights campaigners like WEB Du Bois, Charles Edward Russell and Ida B. Wells. The NAACP became a leading force in fighting for political, educational, social and economic equality for all races. They played a major role in the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and 1960s fighting segregation and Jim Crow. They continue to be a major voice for racial equality.

I think they are more focused on 'advancement' rather than racial equality.
They do support education, community and social programs. I see them more on those avenues, than in promoting racial equality.

it was formed as a way for the white liberal class and their "colored" proteges to keep an eye on and direct the tone of the struggle of the afrikan-american people...
it was never grass-roots driven so could never tackle the struggle from that level....
i suppose it serves a purpose but that purpose is not total justice and equality

exactly...which is why it is irrelevant in terms of the grass-roots struggle..

anyone who calls themselves "colored", especially in this day and time, needs a sanity check
