Its founders included notable civil rights campaigners like WEB Du Bois, Charles Edward Russell and Ida B. Wells. The NAACP became a leading force in fighting for political, educational, social and economic equality for all races. They played a major role in the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and 1960s fighting segregation and Jim Crow. They continue to be a major voice for racial equality.
