there were arrests but the latest is that the DNA did not match the accused

MONTEGO BAY, St James -- The case against two St James brothers accused of the brutal rape of five females, including an eight-year-old girl last year, took an unexpected turn yesterday when DNA results tendered in the Western Regional Gun Court showed that the samples did not match those of the accused.
Defence attorney Lambert Johnson maintained that the tests, for which the suspects had volunteered last year, showed that they had no part in the incident that sent shockwaves across the nation and triggered protests.

Johnson, however, said that the prosecution is still insisting on a trial despite the results of the test.
The men, who are brothers and who have been in police custody since last September and were repeatedly denied bail, were yesterday offered bail in the sum of $250,000 -- each with one surety.
Conditions of the bail are that they should report to the police once a week and a curfew order was made against them that they be home between 8:00 pm and 6:00 am.
The men have been jointly charged with burglary, robbery with aggravation, illegal possession of firearm, abduction and assault at common law as well as the sexual assault charges, including rape, buggery, sexual touching and grievous sexual assaults after they were pointed out in an identification parade.
On September 17 last year an armed man reportedly gained access into the house where the women were and held on to one of the family members by her hair, through a window. He allegedly threatened to kill her if his accomplice was not let inside the house. She reluctantly complied.
It was heard that after the two gained entry into the house, they started to ransack the rooms and demanded that the occupants hand over their cellular phones.
The women were then ordered to hand over money and other valuables, including laptop computers, then were allegedly tied up and, one by one, taken to a nearby abandoned lot where they were raped.
