What's up with the Black Hoodies? Question for Younger Boardites

Reading week and all my son is visiting. Now I realized fighting the hoodie thing was a losing battle but to steer him in the right direction I have bought him a gray hoodie, a blue hoodie, one that is white Black and red, a Jamaican flag colours hoodie, and a red hoodie over the last few years. I hid his Black hoodie for 3 years but had to give it back as every time he came home he tour the place upside down searching for it and asking "have you seen my Black hoodie.

His grandmother gave him a gift card for Christmas....when he showed up.....guess what he was wearing. Yup a brand new Black hoodie. He occasionally wears the red one but I have not seen him wear any of the other hoodies. Wha' mek? What is the big attraction to Black hoodies? I see so many young men wearing them.

No black dresses are fine as long as they are not too little. They don't convey a menacing personal like the Black hoodies. I asked him if he doesn't like the hoodies I bought him and why he doesn't wear them. He said he does like them and he does wear them "You aren't with me every day."

I'm 51 years old, and I wear hoodies. My two favorite hoodies are my black and my screaming red. (They match everything else I own, clothing-wise.) Nothing whatsoever to do with menacing anyone... or gangs... or youth even (I should BE so lucky! dwl).

good question actually. Why are we judging ppl becaz a wah dem wear?
I can see if a di pants below dem waste, but hoodies are damn confortable. I been wearing dem since mi a yute an mi nah stop.
I might even wear one to bible class

I am not the one doing the judging. I am concerned about how my son will be judged when he wears a Black hoodie. I don't want him to become a target. Have we forgotten Trayvon Martin?

I have given up the battle to encourage my son to abandon hoodies that I started the first time his cousin gave him one at age 15. Just got to love these Jamaican cousins who always give clothes....the most out there styles too. It is clear that if he has not abandoned hoodies in 7 years, he is not going to abandon them,

My questions is why the preference for Black hoodies when we know it can make one a target.

Oh this I got to see. You have to ensure you make immediate direct eye contact so you see the reaction before it's covered up. Another intriguing aspect of the fine culture up here in Canada. It takes a split second and then the real reaction is buried deep.
