They're warm, and they're soft and comfortable! And they're a whole lot easier to wear than an old-fashioned shawl, which is also warm and soft & comfortable... which is what sweaters & hoodies replaced. Hoodies (and sweaters) free women, too... they free your hands.

Emperah, when the ideas about Black young men wearing hoodies change, I will be happy for my son to wear them. Until then, I love my son and I don't want him doing anything that will make him more of a target whether it is hairstyle, hoodie or pant style.

Can't disagree with you on any of this but until things change, my son is really taking a big risk every time he goes out in a black hoodie, especially when he is in predominantly White areas (which is most of the time in Ontario) or when he is in remote areas. Given current realities, it is not wise for a Black young man to make himself even more of a target. He will already be a target because of his race.

After 8 years of trying, I have not been able to talk him out of wearing hoodies but at least he is not wearing the pants that drop down. That lasted for 1 summer. Thank God he outgrew that fast.

His grandmother wanted to send him for karate when he was younger but I did not agree to it. It would be a good idea for him to do it now though and I am going to tell him that...what was the name of the martial arts you did Emperah? What is better, that or karate and why?

it's called Hapkido and it is far superior to karate it is very close to what stephen segal uses, what he does Aikido.
It is where you turn an opponents offense into your advantage by using it against dem.
You should have let him do it as a yute, it is a very disciplinary art, he'd be blk belt by now and much better off.
Every blk youth should learn martial arts suh dem cyan hangle demself if need be outta road. With these arts they are able to tek care a demself in a 1 against 3,4 and sometimes 5, unless there is a gun of course. PPL who the arts don't go looking for fights as it is led to believe either.
