Normally new technology like this is not put in place until the company finds a significant loss of revenue.

I do find it intriguing that some people say we should be more sympathetic (sensitive? ) to those people, but as somebody who has worked two full time jobs, should I really be sympathetic when I got up off my rear and did what I had to do, when they sit there and wait for hand outs? Really?

I have not looked at the public records lately to be able to answer the question directly, but I'm sure I could find out if I dug enough. Looking at some of the complaints, some of the people are claiming bills of 9000. It is higher than what I pay in my area, but I'm not in JA. I would wager it costs more in JA because JPS has not yet created (or embraced) the cost savings of my particular power company.

Using the JPS website, and only two rooms with an average usage of 6 hours per day of mixed lights, One large fridge, I'm already at $6000. So could the $9000 be realistic? I think so. Calculating the exchange rate of 95 to one us dollar, the rates are definitively higher per kilowatt hour in comparison to what I'm paying but again, I'm not in JA. We also don't know the usage of these people who are complaining. They claim that they are cutting back, but unless we have real kilowatt hours to compare, we are just speculating. Besides, how can we have previous hours if the meters have been tampered with?

About billing the other customers who are paying...well, that works the same way in other industries too. Auto Insurance for example. How about businesses who carry inventory? The more inventory they loose, the more the prices go up, or the more security measures are put in place to control the inventory. I don't see that as any different to what JPS is doing. They are loosing revenue, so they put measures in place to prevent it. Are they stealing from the people? IMO, only an insider with direct access to the financial information would know.

As for free electricity, I honestly doubt electricity will ever be free unless we generate it ourselves.
