Dunno who Sue was looking at... probably a Bishop or Archbishop. Or possibly a Monsignor.
They all wear penitential purple during Lent.

Regular priests usually wear black (even in Lent), not penitential purple. Cardinals wear red. (even in Lent) The Pope wears white. (even in Lent)

why do they have to be so old?

(1) With age comes wisdom and experience.

(2) More importantly, since (until recently) the Papacy was considered a lifetime 'job' or 'appointment' or 'station', the term limit needed to be limited somehow. Age was the only way to do that. Elect an older man, and he won't be in the office for 25 or 30 or 35 years - which is not good for the Church! Stagnancy isn't healthy. It was best to elect someone who would live 10-15 years, at most... then pass on, and then another Pope could be elected.

NONE of these things matters one whit to the Cardinals who choose from amongst themselves when they elect a new Pope. All that matters to them is what kind of Cardinal the man was and is - from a Church stance, religion. Secular things are irrelevant. Catholicism is a religion based upon Jesus' teachings; it's not a social religion like some are.

You've never heard of the Secular Institutes that received papal recognition from Pope Pius XII?

Secular things are very relevant to the Roman Catholic church. There are secular and religious clergy, for example. In fact, Jesus calls the Church to be secular ... to be in the world but not of the world. And so that makes them a social religion as well.

She was looking at the photo posted in the first page of this thread where Pope Francis I is pictured in purple vestments before he became pope and where he was performing a service.

Regular priests wear colorful vestments at different times of the liturgical year.

Clothes are the colors that I've already stated.

Vestments - which go over the man's clothes - are different colors, at different times of the year, according to the liturgical seasons, yes.

Which football team does the new Pope support?

The new pope, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, is not above the passion his countrymen share for football and is an avid a fan of San Lorenzo, one of Argentina's top clubs.
Bergoglio, who took the name Pope Francis when he was elected to the post on Wednesday, received his San Lorenzo membership card after saying mass at a sports complex near the team's stadium.
"He says he lives in a permanent state of suffering for San Lorenzo," said Oscar Lucchini, an architect and fellow fan who handed Bergoglio's membership card to him after that mass about four years ago.
The club posted a picture on its website on Wednesday that showed a smiling Bergoglio lifting up the club's colours.
As archbishop of Buenos Aires, Bergoglio was known for his unassuming lifestyle. He lives near San Lorenzo's headquarters and has long travelled the capital city by public bus.
He also shares the pain of his fellow San Lorenzo fans after their defeats, as well as their joy when the team wins. The club last won Argentina's national championship in 2007.
San Lorenzo also count actor Viggo Mortensen among their biggest supporters. Yes, the High King of the Reunited Kingdom.
Pope Francis being a San Lorenzo fan is perhaps fitting. The club was named after local priest Father Lorenzo Massa, who let children play football in his church's yard so they wouldn't have to do it amongst the dangerous trams in the street. San Lorenzo are currently in 12th place in the Argentine Primera Division, but now that they have the papacy on their side, they will probably expect to start rising up the table any minute now.

International Arrest Warrant issued against Pope Francis I, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, for Crimes against Humanity and Child Trafficking

Italians and others are empowered to apprehend the new Pontiff

Brussels:
The same Common Law Court that tried and sentenced his predecessor and other church and state officials has today issued an Arrest Warrant against the first Jesuit Pope in history, Jorge Mario Bergoglio.
A signed and sealed copy of the Warrant is attached, and the text follows.
The Argentinian prelate assumed criminal liability and became subject to immediate arrest by occupying the Papal seat in the wake of the conviction of the Vatican as a criminal organization on February 25, 2013.
Bergoglio's role in the death of Argentinian citizens during that country's "Dirty War" and in the trafficking of the children of political prisoners also compelled the International Common Law Court of Justice to issue the Warrant today, which is one year in duration.
Italian and Argentinian citizens, and any man or woman, are authorized by the Warrant to be involved in Bergoglio's public detaining.
"The Pope is the head of a predatory power that is waging an undeclared, centuries-old war against the entire non-Catholic world" commented ITCCS Field Secretary Kevin Annett today in Vancouver, where he delivered a copy of the Arrest Warrant to the Catholic Archdiocese office.
"Since we and our children are being assaulted by a corporation that is a law unto itself, we have the right to defend ourselves and detain or stop altogether those responsible, as in any war".
A Public Proclamation is being read out in twenty eight countries this week by ITCCS members, publicly banning those church and state officials who cannot be immediately arrested under these Warrants.
Citizens are encouraged to download and use the attached Warrant.
