Been itching to ask this. Why are Jamaicans offended when people say "mon" instead of "man" when imitating Jamaicans? Dont you think that is how we ( non caribbeans) hear it when its said?
u hear it once it is ok... but then it usually follows they think it is funny and keep repeating it ad nauseum....
But apprently those workers at resorts in Jamaica tell tourists that is how we talk....a Norwegian friend of mine told me went on a cruise last month stopped in Jamaica and was told this when he went on a trip on the rock...
From the native POV, It is both plural and singular. To pluralize you would add dem .... as in the mon dem.
To the ears of the foreigner is never used that sense more as an expression of camaraderie and appreciation.
As in: One Love mon, Irie mon, Yes mon, Cool runnings mon
