I have been a Peter Abrahams fan for years... I never read this book before... I finally did... It was a question that intruged me was the expectations of jamaicans prior to 1962... I thought this book captured this period rather well... I must say it made me conclude we mucked up our independence..We had less...but we were richer...We had

And for the first time in a long time I found writing that captured the attitude of the hills of my youth. That attitude has past, and I lived through the period of its death.... there is one chapter in this book that got it right...But the urbanisation that has happened has brushed this away time is change... and we changed...

I got a copy of Devon Dicks The Cross and the Machete..... wanted to read this for the last four years since it was published... I know it is common to go on about we need more Garvey and we are ignorant of Garvey... But I think we are more ignoratn of Bogle and Gordon....Hope this book addds to my knowledge and does for Bogle what Negro with a Hat did for Garvey...

Abrahams in Jamaica mosaic was called it a riot.....I must read New Day by Vic Read... 65 was the story I love and my my son read it...

i found a first editon of MiNE BOY is one of those goodwill sort of stores, here where i am in Canada...of course i have most of Peter's books including MINE BOY but a first edition...do u know that a hard copy of this one that u posted sells for nearly $200 on Amazon...i love me some Peter Abrahams..can still hear that 'unusual' voice coming out of the radio in Jamaica....the copy that i am familiar with has a picture of people on it...a picture of our multi-ethnicity......am looking forward to my trip to London...i need to replace some books i have been silly to loan n not get back n some i lost in a fire back in NJ in the 90s
