Lisa Hanna, Minister of Youth and Culture
The annual Festival Song Competition which forms part of Jamaica's Independence celebrations will not take place this year.
This was revealed at Wednesday’s sitting of the Standing Finance Committee of Parliament by Lisa Hanna, Minister of Youth and Culture. Miss Hanna was explaining how funds allocated in the 2013/2014 budget will be spent by her Ministry.
She revealed that this year instead of the song competition the public will vote on which is the best Festival Song since its inception more than four decades ago.
“Getting the public involved to choose a Festival Song that they believe has been the best one for the past 50 years and to narrow it down to 10 and to have a big celebration around that as the festival song. They have not concluded how that will take place, but those are the proposal on the table at this time, “said Ms Hanna.
The Festival Song Competition has taken place since 1966.
