In a discrimination lawsuit filed Wednesday, the Warrens claim that an employee informed them of the dress-code when they tried to claim first-class tickets at the counter. Sharing their fears with fellow passenger Michael Heffernan that they might miss their flight, they eventually boarded the plane to discover Heffernan and a friend sitting in first class wearing the same casual attire they had been wearing before being asked to change.

If you travel on a buddy pass, or any staff travel passes, there is a dress code enforced not only for first class, but also for business and coach.

Passengers who pay full fare can wear what they please. However if you are on a pass you have to comply.

It's the fault of the person who gave them the passes not to inform them of the dress code.

I didn't think the airline (any of 'em) would practice such blatant racism. (Possibly more insidious racist things done, coz racism is alive and quite well - but nothing so blatant as this would have been, had it not been a simple case of buddy pass dress code.)

Some people find racism even where it doesn't exist. smh

when mi used to get pass from a relative, the ny/fl route always full up and mi always the last one to board

A true thing dat maybe the employee was selling the passes as me used to buy US Air buddy pass but me coudden badda wid the waiting and having to travel through Charlotte plus you need 2 passes to travel like dat. I used to get into 1st class dowe because you have to dress properly and act decent. When you are flying for "free" you cannot expect to be seated in 1st class with you pants heng down a you batty battam and you head cover up like you a Sarah Palin uppa Alaska. I doan blame the airlines when the ediat dem lose the case US Air should sue dem baxide for waisting the airline time.

Exactly. When I was a flight attendant, when we were deadheading or using passes, the rules were REALLY clear. Not even jeans were permitted. This has nothing to do with race. Passengers paying full fare are given more latitude but still it is important to dress appropriately for one's environment whether this is in the air or on the ground. I am so tired of seeing people turn up in dem dutty jeans for just about anything. It's particularly bad in Canada. You go to a symphony concert and no one dresses up any more.
