The Police say a well-known political activist could be behind a highly organised group of persons who organised last week's multi-million dollar robbery at the Swiss Stores – a jewelry store in the Corporate Area..
During last week’s robbery, a gunman went to the store and stole 16 Rolex watches.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Senior Superintendent Cornwall "Bigga" Ford, revealed that the Flying Squad Unit has recovered 13 watches.
Investigations also led to several other items, including US$150 thousand and over J$500 thousand .
“We have also found some Movado wrist watches, one illegal gun, two legal guns over 500 rounds of assorted ammunition and cash."
Ford said the five suspects in custody will be charged after they are questioned in the presence of their attorneys.
“When charges are preferred and t he names of the suspects released – I think some people will be shocked,” he said.

The Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Task Force will be pursuing the seizure of the assets.

JLP activist among five held for jewellery store robbery

A well-known Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) activist is among five men detained by police in connection with last week's robbery of Swiss Stores in downtown Kingston.
The activist was picked up by detectives from the Flying Squad, who led a two-day operation in Kingston and St Andrew, St Thomas and St Catherine in search of suspects in the jewellery store robbery.

It was reported that a gunman walked into the store, located at the intersection of Harbour and Church streets, and made off with 23 expensive watches valued at $7 million.
Police recovered seven of the watches shortly after the robbery and the other 16 were seized during Flying Squad operations.
The police said they also seized US$150,000, J$500,000, two licensed shotguns, an illegal weapon, several magazines, more than 500 rounds of assorted ammunition, laptop computers, tablets, a Macintosh desktop computer, a car radio, white gold jewellery and three smartphones.
Head of the Flying Squad, Senior Superintendent Cornwall 'Bigga' Ford, said the police would be slapping charges on the five men after they had been interviewed in the presence of their attorneys.
"This is a highly organised team of people and, as the commissioner has mandated us, we will be going where the cash leads us. We are going after their assets," Ford said.
In the meantime, he said the Flying Squad had sought the assistance of the Financial Investigation Division, the Organised Crime Investigative Division and the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corrupton Task Force to fortify the building of a solid, airtight case against the criminal outfit
