Member of Parliament for South Trelawny, Marisa Dalrymple Philibert, has described as malicious claims that Food for the Poor Houses have been given to persons in her constituency who are aligned to the Jamaica Labour Party, and are already homeowners.
The claims were highlighted in a Sunday Gleaner article.
Dalrymple Philibert is insisting that she has followed strictly all the rules and guidelines laid down by Food for the Poor regarding the distribution of houses.
She says the selection process for beneficiaries of the houses has been examined and has gotten the approval from the office of the Contractor General.
She also says claims by Paul Patmore, the Independent Councillor for the Lorrimers Division, that most of the beneficiaries are under the age of 30, are untrue.
The parliamentarian notes that only 6 of the 104 beneficiaries of Food for the Poor houses are under age 30.
Dalrymple Philibert is also insisting that none of the applicants she recommended were homeowners prior to receiving a house.
However, she explains that she has no control over who houses are given to, although most of the persons who send in applications to her are from her constituency.
Mrs Dalrymple Philibert notes that construction is underway for a house for 63-year-old Vivian Smalling who was quoted in The Sunday Gleaner article as saying he’s still awaiting a house from Food for the Poor.
