Today is teacher's day in Jamaica. Thank you Miss Chin (RIP) for inspiring me to always give my best during my years at prep school. Thanks to Miss Grant, my history teacher at Jamaica College. You encouraged and helped me to have an appreciation for history/culture that I still have today. Happy Teacher's day to all teachers you may feel overworked, underpaid, and unappreciated but I assure you that your labor of love is not in vain....we can all name a teacher that influenced us and that is a tribute to you..

Thank you Mrs. Symes, Geography teacher, for opening the mind of a young girl to a world that was way bigger than a school room near Cross Roads. And thank you for telling that first former, "you have an analytical mind." She took it as a compliment and she never forgot it
And to Miss Chang, Math Teacher, that same girl still wishes for you now what she wished for you then

Mrs Wilks, who taught us at grade 6, that the world is a very big place and helped to perfect my spanish accent
Mr Pasinkoff who dramatized the Iliad and the Odyssey by jumping on desks
If you don't fight for what you deserve, you deserve what you get.

not one.... I would not trust my children education to that set ah sadistic, uninspiring, insipid, self important box fillers, god freaks... ok one teacher did give us Chinua Achebes Things fall apart but she did not want to teach it.. because it was clear she did not support the fact that the animist african religion was not demonised...ous.... To this day I recall a teacher telling me the Theme for Steinbeck "The Pearl" was " greed reaps corrpution... Rather than the insipid evil of poverty....or the teacher that claimed ISIS was pronounced Is-is and when a boy insisted that she was wrong punisjed him... (we ended up calling him Is-is...)
My real teachers were my mother and father taught me more history, languages, Geography, literature, folklore, medicine, art, electronics, science, religions, combat tactics...So thanks Mum.. u showed me La Maja Vestida and La Maja Desnuda....put it into context, they myth, the history ...and showed me beauty of the Bull at Ishtar gate in Babylon... introduced me to Gurneica.... And thanks Dad for explaining how an Atom bomb worked.... I used the same explanation to my son....!Last edited by Wahalla; 05-08-2013, 11:56 AM.
