How incredibly sad .

Could it be that there is more reporting on these incidents?

Not too long ago, these kinds of stories were hardly broadcasted outside of the immediate geographic area. Wit with more newspapers in Jamaica, more reporting, and the Internet, these crimes appear to be occurring more often.

In either case, still very sad.

More like the past 3 years. Brutal murder and rape has been reported more often on younger children. Some times family members, neighbours have to band together and go about justice in their own manner... no matter how brutal it is but one hope they will catch the monster.

A six-day search for eight-year-old Tamera Laing ended in grief yesterday when her decomposed body was pulled from a pit latrine near her home in a community called Africa, in the old capital of Spanish Town, St Catherine.
Family members said Laing, a student of McCauley's Primary School in the parish, had been missing since Saturday.
"Reports we received is that the child went missing over the weekend and following a search, a body believed to be hers, was found in a pit metres away from her home," said one police from Spanish Town Police station.
The incident has triggered shock and anger among residents in the community.

Two killed in reprisal for child's murder

KINGSTON, Jamaica - Two St Catherine men were killed in separate incidents in what is suspected to be a reprisal for the recent murder of an eight-year-old girl from the March Pen Road community.
The crimes were both committed in the area early Friday morning.

Leighton Farquharson, a 33-year-old labourer, was discovered at about 1:40am with his throat slashed and a note which read “Children are our future. Rapists must die” stuck to his body.
Half-an-hour later, the body of Tishan Campbell, 24, was also found with the throat slashed.
Police theorise that both murders may have been an act of jungle justice for the slaying of eight-year-old Tamera Laing.
A search for Tamera, who went missing last weekend, ended Thursday when her decomposed body was taken from a pit latrine near her home in Africa, a Spanish Town community.

DUANVALE, Trelawny — The Trelawny police have confirmed that a woman in her early 40s has confessed to Monday's murder of her estranged common-law husband's four-year-old daughter, who was beheaded and her body dumped in a sinkhole in Duanvale, ironically as the world celebrates Childs Month.
"She has admitted knowledge of it," a high-ranking police officer told the Observer West last night, refusing to give details.

The deceased has been identified as Natasha Brown, a student of the Duanvale Basic School.
The entire community was plunged into shock and anxiety later Monday after it was discovered that little Natasha did not report for school that day, even though she had left home for the institution.
The police who initiated an Ananda alert after they were summoned, subsequently — along with residents — launched a search in the deep rural community. It was later announced that a small human frame was spotted in a sinkhole, located in a rugged terrain in a section of the community called Faith Avenue, which is only accessible by foot.
Efforts were then made to fish the body from the sinkhole.
But the team, comprising fire fighters, the police and residents, later abandoned the mission and returned yesterday morning about 8:30. About an hour later, the dismembered body was retrieved, with the assistance of community member, Marvin Grossett, who snaked his way down the hole, estimated to be about 25 feet deep.
Grosset who recounted his adventure to members of the media, noted that after he reached the bottom of the hole he saw the infant's head beside a black plastic garbage bag in which the child's torso was concealed. He said he placed the head into the bag and worked his way out of the hole.
Armed with the bag with the body, he was greeted with loud cheers from community members who lined up outside the police tape which cordoned off the area. Some of the curious onlookers stood on the roofs of buildings overlooking the crime scene, while others thronged the streets.
But, while Grosset was greeted as a hero, the community members on the other hand, branded the suspect as a villain.
There was much anger directed at her from the large gathering of irate residents who lined the streets outside the area cordoned off by the police.
Among the disgruntled members of the community who directed venom at the woman in custody was Natasha's distraught father, Ewan Brown, who disclosed that he and the suspect had broken up about four months ago, after a relationship spanning 16 years.
Four years ago, Natasha was born out of a relationship with another woman in the community.
He admitted there was not much love lost between the two women but he didn't expect that it would have resulted in Natasha's gruesome murder.
"If a problem was there — nobody don't want to die — but it would be better if she had attacked whether me or her (Natasha's) mother who can defend ourselves. But when you go tek the pickney and murder her, that a wickedniss," he said.
"Me know say shi (estranged lover) is a serious woman, but we naw look fi that.
Other members of the community who were in a state of militancy, demanded blood.
"Carry her (the suspect) come give wi, and mek wi tie her up on light post and beat her," said a woman.
Another man stated: "Police come too quick. Them should allow wi with her mek wi put her in a tyre and light her."
Community members claimed that the suspect was seen holding Natasha's hand when she was on her way to school about 8:30 Monday morning.
"She trailed the pickney and kidnapped her while she was walking in a track in the community," one man theorised.
Another member of the crowd said that the suspect who was seen carrying a garbage bag late Monday, declared that she was carrying a pig in the bag.
Residents also alleged that on Monday, the accused woman asked a butcher in the community how he felt when he slaughtered a pig.
Yesterday, Natasha's mother was unavailable for a comment, but her maternal grandmother, Marlene Shaw, expressed shock and disbelief at the gruesome act.
"After me come back from hospital yesterday evening (Monday) by me reach in one bus me get the call say them take her away. All now me can't believe," said the grieving grandmother.

Well they did what u suggested..... now the truth will not be known....community tandards.. the innocenceor guilt of those killed not established....

Murder of two Spanish Town men said a retaliation for death of 8-year-old girl

TWO men were yesterday stabbed to death in what police theorise is a reprisal for the death of eight-year-old Tamera Laing, whose body was found in a pit toilet in March Pen, Spanish Town, on Thursday.
The bodies of two men — Leighton Parkinson, 33, and Teshawn Campbell, 23 — were found with multiple stab wounds in the same March Pen community, a tough section of the old Jamaican capital.

“Based on investigations, we believe the men were killed as a reprisal for the child, whose body was found in the area,” a detective probing the case told the Jamaica Observer.
Investigators said a note found on one of the bodies of the men and which read, ‘Children are our future, rapists must die’, provided further evidence to their claim.
The little girl, who was a student of the nearby McCauley’s Primary School, went missing last Saturday. Her body was found Thursday in a pit latrine in a section of the community called Africa, just metres from her home.
Yesterday, the Constabulary Communication Network reported that about 1:30 am the police went to March Pen after residents found the body of Parkinson and alerted the constabulary. Police said when they arrived in the area a search was carried out and the body of Campbell was found.
There were fears among residents yesterday that there could be further reprisals, but the St Catherine North police (Spanish Town) promised to keep a close watch on the troubled community.
In the meantime, Commissioner of Police Owen Ellington, writing in this week’s Force Orders, expressed “great concern” over the violent attacks against children and the elderly over the past several days.
Ellington urged the public to be “more cautious with regard to our young children and to see to the safety and welfare of our elderly”.
He urged parents and community members “to be vigilant and understand that it is their duty to ensure the safety of our children and the elderly who are the most vulnerable of our society”.
Tamera Laing was among three children murdered this week. The others were four-year-old Natasha Brown, whose head was severed and her body dumped in a sinkhole in Duanvale, Trelawny, and Avia Hiutchinson, a 17-year-old Sandy Bay, Hanover girl who was killed and her body dumped on Maxfield Avenue in Kingston.
Two elderly women — 78-year-old Vera Knight, of Clarendon, and 83-year-old Sylvia Sewell, a newspaper vendor — were also brutally murdered last Saturday and on Thursday respectively.
