Cheerios Commercial With Mixed Race Family Gets Racist Backlash

Many White people flipped out because the couple was interracial. It got so bad that comments had to be disabled on the video.

And how do you know they were all white people? Does you tube identify commentors by race?

We know if Blu would have commented on you tube it would have been negative and by your own admission you did not like the commercial for racial and gender reasons.

Actually, I have not given my opinion of the commercial yet.

Well I assume the comments were from White people because they were negative about mixing with Black people and putting down Black people. I don't think too many Black people would be commenting like that.

There were no comments criticizing the Black man for being with a White woman for example. Alas comments are disabled so I can't give you examples. They don't even show up in the cache so I can only pull a few examples from media articles:

"Just goes to show you they start steeling [sic] at an early age!!! First Cheerio's next bikes then cares lol just like in real life."

"... saying they found the ad disgusting and it made them want to vomit." And that comment was disapproving of the White woman selecting a Black partner.

Other hateful commenters expressed shock that a black father would stay with his family.

Prior to the closure, the comment section had been filled "with references to Nazis, 'troglodytes' and 'racial genocide,'" according to Adweek.

I assure you if there were comments putting the man down for being with a White woman, I would have shared them in a flash.

Personally I think they found the cute child first then worked backward to get the parents !

Tropi you're missing the point here; the commercial got negative comments on YOUTUBE...that is the story; it's actually a non-story because anything similar posted on youtube and viewed a lot will also get a lot of negative comments; any regular youtube viewer knows that outrageous racist hateful comments are just par for the course on youtube...cheerios should have known this also-- or maybe they did but figured they could use the extra publicity that would no doubt be generated by the "backlash"
