people were enamored with the mandela who went into prison thinking it was the same one who came out...it was not--- who knows what kind of substances or tactics the criminal south afrikan gov't used on him all those years...or what kind of deal they reached to let him outOriginally posted by Wahalla View Postthere are two Mandelas imho.. the Icon and the politician.....
The politician is the one that interests me and that one was practical and did what was expedient to attain power....like any "Prince"
The icon is a myth...

Good question. I have only done work for one South African company and I wasn't impressed. Of the 56 executives (most from South Africa where the head office is) almost every one of them was White....there was one who may have had a wee drop of something else in him...the only one who would even speak to me at first.
I couldn't help thinking what did Mandela really change. The only people who weren't white were a guy from the Dubai subsidiary (Arab), a guy from the Singapore office (Asian) and a guy from Namibia branch (Black). That was it.
I was invisible at breakfast. Invisible at the reception and dinner that took place right after I addressed the whole group (so they KNEW who I was). Only the next day in an informal setting did they start speaking to me. Reminded me of how the snooty type of Jamaican goes on...same vibe.
