I see young girls holding hands allll the time (I live very close to an elementary school) plus my niece and her friends used to do it when they were younger. nothing intimate or inappropriate with it. Just because the other girl looked butch doesn't mean she is gay could be just a tom-boy.

If it were my 15-year-old in the situation you described and you told me what you saw, I would politely say, "It's great to have neighbors who look out for each other, isn't it?
