Why do you think he was in court to begin with? He was there because he physically abused his girlfriend. During sentencing he patted his lawyer on the butt which led to a burst of laughter throughout the courtroom. He made a mockery of the court room and the judge took it as a disrespect of the court process and women in general that have been abused by cowardly men.
This is poetic justice. He took it for granted that he would get out of this mess because he has money. Not unlike others that have money and think they can buy their way out of trouble with fancy lawyers.
Judge did the right thing.

so the judge is all set to accept the plea deal. she thinks it is it is quite reasonable for him to not do any time for the Head butt and whatever else he was before the court for. then he pats his lawyer's butt and all that changes? all of a sudden the seriousness of the charges come into focus?

So in your opinion ..the unexpected response to his simple act substantially changed the case enuff that the plea deal was no longer acceptable?
would the plea deal have been acceptable if nobody noticed the "pat"? that is why i think the judge is playing the fool. I don't even think when she made the call she knew exactly what he did to cause the reaction.

We have a show on TV called "Dish Nation" in which they opined that the judge in this case is angling for a TV judge program and wants to make a name for herself.
While the actions of the judge were way over the top IMHO, she was well within her rights to do what she did, his actions showed that he has a sense of entitlement in which he can behave any way he likes without consequence. Either that or he is a complete idiot.

Johnson's attorney, Adam Swickle, said the rear-end slap was just a football player's way of saying thanks. We're thankful this story has reached its conclusion and hopeful that Johnson's legal troubles are behind him.
