ST CATHERINE, Jamaica -- Police have launched an investigation into reports that a farmer was robbed of than 20 sheep and 18 goats in Nightingale Grove, St Catherine early Thursday.

At about 3:00am the farmer who was keeping watch over his farm left to go to nearby premises. It was then that the thieves made their move.

“A group of men attacked me while I was coming back,” the farmer said.

The victim said that he was severely beaten and left in bushes.

Police report that the thieves gathered the 38 animals, killed and gutted them on the farm then left with the meat.

A representative from Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) said that the loss is estimated at over $2 million.

but i don't see how if somebody not in the meat business dem can jus show up wid 38 animals worth of meat and find a easy market.

Why would the farmer need to keep watch at 3AM and then go nearby premises dat early in the morning unless some kinda threat was made to he & his farm

Many of the butchered animals were pregnant, what a waste!!!

Seems like the farmers in the area are the latest victims of thugery. Some are considering giving up on their farms.
