The Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority says it has activated its contingency response team in light of air traffic controllers calling in sick for their respective shifts since Saturday.
Air Traffic Controllers assigned to the Kingston Air Traffic Control Centre (KATCC) and both international airports called in sick for the 7 am shift.Forty one Air Traffic Controllers were scheduled for duty at the KATCC.
The Contingency Team operated all shifts at all locations until 9:20 pm, on Saturday at which time the JCAA implemented a restriction to check the flow of air traffic.
The Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority says notices were issued informing the Aviation Community that all facilities would be closed between 9:00 pm on Saturday to resume 7:00 am on Sunday.
The Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority says the Contingency Team is again working at all three locations as the air traffic controllers scheduled for duty have not reported to work.
The Air Traffic Controllers are upset about salary issues, after failing to reach an agreement with the management two weeks ago.
