Just found out why we haven't re-printed maps

I was speaking with someone from the Tourist Board. I haven't been able to get maps in ages and I asked the person who will remain nameless why? The response? The coastline has changed and there has been a lot of development so a new survey is needed and that's expensive. So why can't Butch, Chris and Michael Lee-Chin team up fi bankroll it.

I wonder how expensive it is anyway. I wonder if Googlemaps can help.

Any business person in the know will tell you that unpaid PR is of much more value than advertising. Do you know how much publicity dem would get from dis? Chris has a string of boutique hotels to fill, Butch has resorts that could use a boost at some times of the year and Michael I am sure would not mind getting more exposure and business. Look at how much exposure he got from underwriting the Michael Lee-Chin crystal at the ROM in Toronto. Everyone in the GTA knows who he is now and his name is front and centre whenever anyone visits the ROM from anywhere.

It is well known that businesses often support worthwhile causes and in the process dem get NUFF publicity...more promo than wall to wall Sandals commercials during prime time and it's much more effective too at a fraction of the cost. It's a win-win situation for business people

Tropi, you mentioned Google. I think that may play a big part in the reason. "Printed" maps seem so 20th century now. Everything digital now and Google Earth , WikiMapia have the ability to provide ever expanding, detailed maps of the island. In the future there will even be street view available for much of Jamaica so an updated printed map will be redundant.

Well when one is at their home based, searching on-line for sure would be easier than having a bunch of maps so printed maps would be redundant.

When one is in Jamaica or any foreign destination and trying to find one's way around, a printed map is the way to go. Roaming charges are HUGE so I don't think downloading a map app. or accessing maps on Googlemaps would be financially viable for most people.
