lonewolf, I don't know if you are just dense, or refuse to acknowledge the entitlement of whites in Amerikkka, but notice in this article the difference of results in the "stand your ground" defense in this case. (BTW, warning shots were into a wall, not a human being, she WAS IN HER OWN HOME, not a public street, the aggressor she was attempting to scare had a history of abuse and had threatened to kill her.) Justice in this country is neither blind nor equal.

I'm not trying to be flippant or arguementive, but the facts are that most white people see it just the opposite.or refuse to acknowledge the entitlement of whites in Amerikkka,
It just goes to show you how differently white people and black people think on issues. We have a long way to go.

Sort of puts that theory to rest...does it not? Your perception and the truth is two different things.
There are facts and than there are knee jerk reactions to such things as Travon Martin and this woman.
Forty four African Americans in the state of Florida have claimed a “Stand Your Ground” defense. Of these claims, 24 were considered “justified” (55 percent), while 11 resulted in convictions and nine cases are still pending.
Of the 76 white people who have used the defense, 40 were considered “justified” (less than 53 percent), while 25 were convicted and 11 cases are still pending

Just wondering if this part of the report was missed?
"But a jury agreed with prosecutors that the law didn't apply because she left during the argument, got a gun and returned to confront him, WJXT reported. "
I'm trying the find the jury instructions for this case. (Isn't the internet wonderful?
) If my memory serves me, many cases where a gunman (gun woman in this case) returned with a weapon, the gunman has always ended up in jail if they were caught. Doesn't matter what race they were. There is a also a mandatory sentencing law that applied to this case and that is why she got 20 years. There is a grassroots self defense group attempting to overturn that statute.
I heard on the radio today...I'm paraphrasing...How does one expect the Florida law on stand your ground to apply if you're on your back getting beat? (if you believe his version of the story.) I think a lot of people are tying in two different things, like stand your ground and justified use of force for self defense. Based on the jury instructions, the law that applied for GZ was justified use of force.
Here is a part of the instructions:
"An issue in this case is whether George Zimmerman acted in self-defense. It is a defense to the crime of Second Degree Murder, and the lesser included offense of Manslaughter, if the death of Trayvon Martin resulted from the justifiable use of deadly force.
“Deadly force” means force likely to cause death or great bodily harm.
A person is justified in using deadly force if he reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to himself.
In deciding whether George Zimmerman was justified in the use of deadly force, you must judge him by the circumstances by which he was surrounded at the time the force was used. The danger facing George Zimmerman need not have been actual; however, to justify the use of deadly force, the appearance of danger must have been so real that a reasonably cautious and prudent person under the same circumstances would have believed that the danger could be avoided only through the use of that force. Based upon appearances, George Zimmerman must have actually believed that the danger was real."
Also, if one were to side with the prosecution, or some of the popular reported theories in which Zimmerman was not justified in shooting, then the stand your ground portion of the law is also irrelevant as a person committing a crime is specifically exempted out from the law by the FL statute. This was also repeated in the jury instruction. I hope this helps some of you to understand why the jury voted the way they did and not because they are white as alleged. Again, I don't have a vote either way because I was not there, I have not seen all the evidence, and I'm not racist as some of you allege.
I'll paraphrase what our Supermod said in another thread..."Race is just one layer." And I'll repeat what I said in another thread. The actions of certain groups currently with vandalism or attacks "This is for Trayvon" (especially the attack of a person trying to get the hospital) does nothing to clear the stereotypes. But some people are too foolish to realize that.
BTW, I am not an attorney, but I have many friends and family who are attorneys, different races, and when we discuss this case, the conclusion is as pointed out above.Last edited by LinSkinny; 07-18-2013, 01:19 AM.
