I heard a disgusting conversation today, on a teleconference. (Mr Witchy worked from home today.)
The company he works for is downsizing itself out of existence as it currently exists right now, we believe. He is a hired gun, so none of this actually applies to him; they must honor his lawful contract and pay him through the 31st of December, no matter what else they do - they aren't going bankrupt and will have the solvency to do so. There's plenty of money. That isn't the issue. In the past 2-3 months, they've laid off about a dozen levels of management - about 400 ppl in total. Who's left is trying to carry on, but it becomes increasingly difficult... as I'm sure unnoo can imagine!
This telephone conference lasted about 20-25 minutes, and it basically consisted of one man talking without any breaths (honest - hand to God, it's true!) about how everyone is going to get laid off sooner or later, but not all at once, and those left must continue to pick up the slack with each period of lay-offs, and how this company wants... no - expects... everyone left to work very hard 'til they either drop or are let go finally. At the end of this..... diatribe?..... this man summarily hung up the phone unexpectedly, without giving anyone a chance to talk or even to ask a question! *click* And he was gone.
WTF???
What would YOU do? (besides looking hard for another job - obviously!)
Mr Witchy has made certain that - should they lay him off, regardless of his contract - he has work elsewhere that he can go straight to doing immediately.
The problem is that, because he is under contract to them 'til the end of this year, they will probably lay everything on him to do, which will raise his stress level tremendously!
I hope and pray that he won't just
