I caught the tail end of a documentary that was talking about Cecil Rhodes. Do you know that when he first went to Africa he was criticized for being too friendly with and accommodating to the Africans? He would pay a fair wage when others weren't doing it and he even had Africans as partners.

All this change when economics came into it. I didn't realize Cecil Rhodes was the founder of De Beers. The genocide and inhuman treatment of Africans that he became part of in search of the almighty dollar and to appease other White business owners is one of the most ugly chapters in human history.

It was Trevor Monroe who was a Rhodes Scholar who made a group of us aware of this when he spoke up here once. I didn't realize the nasty practices like for example de Africans had to strip down at the end of the work day and de people dem would search every orifice to make sure they were not smuggling diamonds. I haven't delved into this enough to have a full answer but I do understand that some of the chieftans were bribed with guns, booze and European luxuries. I recall seeing something about one who was riddled with gout as a result. A couple of them went to Queen Victoria "the great White Queen" is what they called her to complain. It was in that Jamaican movie...the horrible one about slavery The Fight Against Slavery. Seeit deh.
