Remember America's fake Iraq war claims before attacking Syria, warns China
An attack on Syria would be dangerous and irresponsible, and the world should remember the Iraq war was started by U.S. allegations of weapons of mass destruction which turned out to be false, China's official Xinhua news agency said on Tuesday.
The United States has served Syrian President Bashar al-Assad notice that it believes he was responsible for chemical weapons being used against civilians last week.
Military chiefs from the United States and its European and Middle Eastern allies have met in Jordan for what could be a council of war, should they decide to punish Assad, who has denied using chemical weapons and blamed rebels for the attacks.
Xinhua said that Western countries were rushing to conclusions about who may have used chemical weapons before U.N. inspectors had completed their investigation.
"Such rhetoric, as well as the recent flurry of consultations between Washington and its allies, indicates that they have put the arrow on the bowstring and would shoot even without a U.N. mandate," Xinhua said in an English-language commentary.
"That would be irresponsible and dangerous. For starters, the current scenario is reminiscent of the lead-up to the Iraq War, which the United States staged with allegations about weapons of mass destruction that later turned out to be false."
Xinhua commentaries do not carry the same weight as government statements, but they can be read as a reflection of official Chinese thinking.
China has urged all parties not to jump to conclusions about the results of the U.N. probe, and has urged calmness in dealing with the accusations.
"In the heat of the crisis, all parties concerned should keep their heads cool, especially those impatient to take military actions without a U.N. mandate," it said.
"It is imperative that the Unites States and like-minded countries refrain from hasty armed invention and let the U.N. play its due part in determining how to act accordingly."
Russia, Assad's key ally and arms supplier, says rebel forces may have been behind the attack and has urged Washington not to use military force against Assad.
Moscow and Beijing have both vetoed previous Western efforts to impose U.N. penalties on Assad.
But China has been keen to show it is not taking sides and has urged the Syrian government to talk to the opposition and take steps to meet demands for political change. It has said a transitional government should be formed.

Obama Says U.S. Should Take Action In Syria, Will Seek Congress' Authorization For Use Of Force
President Barack Obama addressed the crisis in Syria on Saturday, saying he has decided the United States should take military action against regime targets, but that he will seek authorization from Congress before taking action.
"I will seek authorization for the use of force from the American people's representatives in Congress," Obama said during a press conference in the White House Rose Garden.
Obama said any action would "be designed to be limited in duration and scope."
Obama referenced an Aug. 21 attack at the start of his remarks, saying "this menace must be confronted."
"The world watched in horror as men, women and children were massacred in Syria in the worst chemical attack of the 21st century," Obama said.
"This attack is an assault on human dignity," Obama said, saying it "risks making a mockery" of the use of chemical weapons.
"Make no mistake -- this has implications beyond chemical warfare," Obama said.
According to Reuters, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said the House will consider a measure on Syrian military action the week of Sept. 9, when lawmakers return from recess.Comment

The United States has no credibility left. From Iraq to Viet Nam, all started by a faked premise or incident. It would not surprise me in the least if the gas attack was either staged or carried out by the CIA.
Every time I remember poor Colin Powell making the case for war in Iraq at the United Nations I shake my head. I honestly believe he quit politics because he realized how he was used. I bet he would have some very interesting death bed confessions.Comment

"That is why I am convinced that [the chemical attack] is nothing more than a provocation by those who want to drag other countries into the Syrian conflict, and who want to win the support of powerful members of the international arena, especially the United States," Putin told journalists in Vladivostok.
The Russian president also challenged the US to present its case for military intervention to the UN security council, after suggesting that if Barack Obama was worthy of his Nobel peace prize, he should think about the possible victims of any intervention by foreign forces.
UN experts left Syria on Saturday after investigating the gas attack, which killed hundreds of civilians, while the US said it was planning a limited response to punish Syria's President Bashar al-Assad for the "brutal and flagrant" assault.
Barack Obama said the US, which has destroyers equipped with cruise missiles in the region, was planning a "limited, narrow" response that would not involve boots on the ground or be open-ended.
Russia responded by saying US threats to use military force against Syria were unacceptable and that Washington would be violating international law if it acted without the approval of the UN security council.
Putin said world powers should discuss the Syrian crisis at a meeting of the leaders of the Group of 20 developed and developing nations in St Petersburg next week. "This (G20 summit) is a good platform to discuss the problem. Why not use it?"
A poll in France revealed that most French people do not want their country to take part in military action on Syria, and most do not trust the president, François Hollande to do so.

Photograph: Hussein Malla/AP The poll was published by Le Parisien-Aujourd'hui en France on Saturday, showed 64% of respondents opposed military action, 58% did not trust Hollande to conduct it and 35% feared it could "set the entire region ablaze".
Russia opposes any military intervention in Syria, warning an attack would increase tensions and undermine the chances of ending the civil war. "Washington statements with threats to use force against Syria are unacceptable," the Russian foreign ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said in a statement late in Friday.
"Any unilateral use of force without the authorisation of the UN security council, no matter how 'limited' it is, will be a clear violation of international law, will undermine prospects for a political and diplomatic resolution of the conflict in Syria and will lead to a new round of confrontation and new casualties."
Lukashevich also said that Washington's threats were made "in the absence of any proof" of the Syrian government having used chemical weapons.
In a sign the US may be preparing to act, the secretary of state, John Kerry, spoke on Friday to the foreign ministers of key European and Gulf allies, as well as the head of the Arab League, a senior state department official said.
The team of UN weapons inspectors arrived at Beirut international airport on Saturday, after crossing the land border from Syria into Lebanon by foot earlier in the day.
The 20-member team, including experts from the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, have been into the rebel-held areas in the Ghouta suburb of Damascus three times, taking blood and tissue samples from victims. They also took samples of soil, clothing and rocket fragments. They will be sent to laboratories in Europe, most likely Sweden or Finland, for analysis. The experts have already been testing for sarin, mustard gas and other toxic agents.
The analysis should establish if chemical weapons were used, but not who was responsible for the 21 August attack. Final results might not be ready for two weeks, the UN secretary general, Ban Ki-moon, told security council members, according to diplomats.
In France, Hollande said Britain's parliamentary vote against military strikes would not affect France's own actions.
Two other opinion polls published this week, and carried out after the Ghouta attack, indicated lukewarm support among French voters for military intervention in Syria.
Hollande, whose popularity has been hurt by economic gloom, showed unexpected military mettle when he dispatched troops to help Mali's government fend off Islamist rebels earlier this year, an intervention backed by two-thirds of the public.Comment

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved a resolution Wednesday granting President Obama limited authority to launch a military strike on Syria in response to its reported use of chemical weapons against civilians.
Acting hours after Obama, during a visit to Sweden, said the credibility of Congress and the international community was also at stake, the committee voted 10 to 7, with one member voting “present,” to approve using force against the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The resolution now goes to the full Senate. The House is separately considering a similar resolution.Comment

A fake email is being sent saying that the United States has begun bombing Syria. First, that's not true, and second, do not open the email. It contains malware.Kaspersky Lab said it started seeing the emails Friday morning ET.
"We're currently seeing a spam run which involves a (fake) report from CNN saying that the US have started bombing Syria," wrote Roel Schouwenberg of Kaspersky Lab Expert on the security company's blog.
"We don't have exact numbers," of how many such emails were sent, playing to concerns about possible U.S. involvement in Syria's civil war, Schouwenberg told NBC News via email. "These actors perform multiple mass-mailings per day."
He wrote that clicking on the shortened Web link inside the mail will "lead to an exploit kit which targets older, vulnerable versions of Adobe Reader and Java. The attackers favor using the Java exploit over the Reader exploit, as Java exploits are generally more reliable."

IT'S THE US GOVERNMENT AND NOT THE US CITIZENS. Polls show that the American people are overwhelmingly against bombing Syria. The idiot in the Whitehouse is ignoring the will of the American people along with the usual war hungry neocons.
I hope those of you that voted for this a$$hole realize that skin color does not make the man.
How does the world feel now about handing this idiot the Nobel Peace Prize.
