Maggotty 'dancer' faces school board tomorrow

Tuesday, October 29, 2013

A female student of Maggoty High School, who is featured in a sexually-charged dance video that has been doing the rounds on social media, is to face the school's board tomorrow.
Principal Rawle Bent told the Jamaica Observer yesterday that the 17-year-old was identified and her mother summoned to a meeting. He said he could not say how many of the others in the six-minute-long video clip, said to be made in 2011, are still students at the St Elizabeth school.
"We are going to have a special board meeting tomorrow," he disclosed.
The video shows students — still in their uniforms — gyrating to dancehall music at a gathering in Apple Valley Park, which is in close proximity to the school.
Some bared their underwear; one girl, still wearing her uniform skirt, stripped down to her brassiere, while others twisted themselves into various sexual positions. There were also scenes with girls being humped — commonly referred to as 'daggering' in dancehall circles — by their male schoolmates and adult men.
Bent said the video was brought to his attention only yesterday.
"It's a bad thing. It is really ugly. We have quite a lot of past students in the diaspora and one from New York and another from Florida called me," he told the Observer yesterday.
"It's really bad. Very negative and bad," he emphasised.
Meanwhile, the video has sparked outrage on both Facebook and YouTube on which it is posted. One person commented that the students were a disgrace to the school, while another shocked viewer questioned whether the 'stars' of the video were actually schoolchildren.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has deplored the students' behaviour and called on school administrators "to implement measures to prevent a recurrence".
In a statement yesterday, Education Minister Ronald Thwaites said that "parents and teachers must work together to ensure that students are instilled with positive values". He pointed to the Health and Family Life Education curriculum, provided by the ministry, as a useful resource.

Ministers do the same ting!
I wonder if it was on school property? If it wasnt then what has it to do with the school. if it was then where was the supervision.?
I think this is an injustice to expelled the female student. But this is what I expect from Jamaican teachers.
