NEW YORK (WABC) -- A teenager from Brooklyn was killed on vacation in Jamaica, and now her mother is talking about what happened, and about learning the news. The teenager was visiting relatives in Jamaica, she and her cousin were shot and killed, only one day after she arrived.
No one imagines it might be the last time they see their child when they send them off for winter break. It happened in Canarsie to a mom and her 19-year-old daughter.
19-year-old Franciena Johnson left to see her grandmother in Jamaica a week ago. A day later she vanished there along with her 18-year-old cousin Nadia Fearon. The child's grandmother then called Franciena's mom back in Brooklyn. "She said, 'Brace yourself, because your daughter is dead,' She didn't know May Pen, she left house and didn't return home," said Suzette Clarke-Grose, the victim's mother.
Police found Franciena and her cousin far from the resorts. Their bodies were floating in a salt marsh near May Pen on the country's south coast.
"I was told it appears they kidnapped them in car, area was lonely, no one know what happened, found with gunshot wounds to body," Clarke-Grose said.
Franciena's mom was sorting through several hundred pictures of her photogenic daughter who was studying to be a nurse at Kingsboro College. She was born in Jamaica and moved to the US as a child. Her mother can't understand why anyone would hurt her. "She was a bubbly and loving, very respectful, I can't imagine doing something, she was someone you could only love," Clarke-Grose said.
