Too Dependent on Government?

The government is handing out $100 grocery gift cards up here to help people repalce food that they lost when the power went off for a few hours or or in some cases a few days up here during the recent ice storm.

I have three questions...

1. Why did people not place food from the refrigerators outside in their garages, sheds, car trunks or on their apartment balconies if the power to their fridge was cut and the food inside was starting go bad? The temps outside were cool to cold.

2. How does the govermnet know who is not able to afford to replenish the food they lost during the storm?

3. Why is the government handing out free food at all? Is it really the role of the government to use taxpayers money to replenish food people lost during a storm? I am an NDP supporter (far to the left political party) but with that said, IMHO government is not responsible for all our woes.

as this is the US it makes sense...they have a program of quantitative easing which is essentially printing money (85 billion a month) to buy government bonds / loans from the banks... this is the same they print money give to people who then spend it.. which is esstentially subsidising the banks in this case they are doing the same to the populannce... it is more effective as it will go into the real economy...I spend almost every morning listening to discussions on quantitative easing,

If your food is frozen and/or contained, rats not gonna get to it, it's not rocket science.

Where did I say the government should not stop waste money pon addar foolishness?

You cannot compare the ice storm we experienced up here to hurricane Katrina. Apples and oranges ting dat!

Mi hear stories of people pulling away from the food line driving BMWs etc... . The handout was too general in scope!!!!!

NO ONE should go hungry in a country like Canada, no one should be homeless, lack basic secondary school education or basic and preventative healthcare (including dental care) in a country like Canada, no one should lack clean drinking water in a country like Canada.

But bloody hell, someone who makes six figures looses a freezer full of prime rib and we are suppose to cover part of the cost of that because they don't know enough to remove it from their freezer and tek it outside to a safe and secure location so it nuh thaw out? Noh man, dat is pure foolishness!
