Gunmen threaten Denham Town residents over graffiti messages

KINGSTON, Jamaica -- Police Thursday morning vowed to maintain a presence in West Kingston where they report that gun-toting criminals have been engaging law enforcers in several shoot-outs over the past few days.
The report comes after police increased their presence when residents complained that they were being threatened by criminals.
The threats, police say, are in reaction to a recent development where residents in Denham Town spray-painted several messages in the community saying that they were fed up with the acts of criminality in the area.
"Since the warnings were issued police would have had several run-ins with criminals venturing into Denham Town from Pink Lane, Chestnut Lane and other areas," Steve McGregor, head of Kingston Western Police Division, said a few minutes ago.
The senior superintendent said that during one of the incidents a police officer was shot and injured.
Police have warned that they will not be deterred and will be keeping up the pressure on the gangs.
