Investigators in the western parish of Westmoreland have taken a man into custody and seized four jet skis following Tuesday’s accident which claimed the life of an American tourist who was visiting the tourist resort town of Negril.
The police report that Thomas Torres, 53, from Las Vegas was swimming when he was hit in the head by a jet ski. The operator of the jet ski did not stop.
Torres was rushed to the hospital in the parish capital of Savanna-la-Mar where he was pronounced dead.
Following investigations, the police later detained the jet ski operator .
Last October, Tourism Minister Dr Wykeham McNeil, announced a six month suspension of the importation of jet skis following reports ofaccidents. After the announcement the police seized several illegally operated jet from resorts in the northern parish of St Ann and from other resort areas.
