I have a fondness for action/suspense novels that are <u>not</u> dialogue driven...

Stopped in at Chapters and tried to find all three authors before the store closed.

I forgot my list - but remembered the names... well, kinda...

I asked for Greg Isles - they were all out of his stuff.

I asked for Allan Folsom - they were all out of that too.

I asked for Hiassen (at least that's how I spelt it) and they were all out...

Nunya, that IS the correct spelling.

He wrote Striptease, which they made into a movie starring Demi Moore. That was when she got those new hooters. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

Lord, sorry Nunya, it's Hiaasen. And you cannot judge a book by the teevee or movie adaptation. A fantastic writer of mysteries is Sara Paretsky, who did the V.I. Warshawsky woman detective series - fabulous works - complex and intriguing plots. But then they did a movie starring Kathleen Turner (which I didn't watch) but which I heard was so bad that was the first and last attempt at a movie based on a Paretsky book.

I read Strip Tease and deliberately stayed away from the movie (because Demi Moore is less an actress than an infomercial for body-building). I liked the book okay, but Double Whammy remains my fave. The incident in there with the bad guy and the decaptitated pitbull is simply priceless, and that kind of over the top outrageousness is a mark of Hiaasen, in addition to the envrionmental theme.

I'd rather own a book than borrow it. Which can be a real pain in the buttocks when the books turn out to be real crap. ~lol~

Today today, mi a go try check out de bookstores cause mi deh pan de laas pages of mi Ludlum...

btw, ever read Reginald Hill??? Read 'Dialogues of the Dead' and it was brilliantly written but the end sucked the big one... [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70400-talktohand.gif[/img]

I just finished reading "Hard Times" by Sara Paretsky and could not put the book down....very good

Anyhoo, I picked up Mortal Fear by Greg Iles. Quite excited to begin reading, but am a little leery since it's written in the first person... it's just a thing I've got...

Anyway, will mek oonuu know how mi like it (see if me an Sandi taste deh pan de same page) an if oonuu can tink of any other good suspense/thriller writers, please note them here!

Patricia Cornwell is good too. I used to read her stuff but the personal story of the coroner or whatever she was just got in the way of the suspense. I do recall reading one of her stories about a serial killer that was seriously spooky.

I wouldn't say Hiaasen is a humorist - that evoke ppl like Dave Barry, people whose first purpose is humour. I'd say Hiaasen is a suspense writer who uses humour. Christopher Brookmyre is sort of like that, too, though I have heard his books described as "laddish".

guess i see hiassen as more 'slice a life' than suspense. What was the one bout the hurricane- atta no suspense ney inna dat. and he wrote the one demi moore + burt reynolds strarred in too. that had some monets of suspense, but to me it more bout di peeps than about the suspense

ooh ooh ooh, u knoww who i really liked that i read not too long ago- was damn, the book was called Hot Target by a woman brickman, brock, mi nuh memba- look it up. anyhow it was suspensefula dn had a nice lil hot love story attach to it too. BUT i went to get anotha of her- yeah it was a female author, and come to find out say the style was still the same. it was like teh same kinda story.

but i know fa sure that you will enjoy that one. the side story dem undadevelop but it wert it
