Poor doggie

There is a dog in the niegborhood who is tied in a yard. He is well fed. But it has been raining hard for 2 days. He was soaked when I saw him last night.

I wanted to put him on my porch or in the garage but he is not mine and I don't think he knows me well enough. I asked the people in the house to call his owner (who does not live there). They told me that he did not pick up the phone.

I think the owners may have lost their house. The man said that they had to get out of where they were living and can not have him where they are now. The man and boy come daily and visit and be sure he has plenty of food and water.

I really don't want to call Animal Controll because he may wind up put down.

I would love to take him in but he is an unneutered male. He has shown a little food guarding with my much smaller neutered male. My land lord is not thrilled that I have one dog

I wish I had not thrown away an old plastic crate that I had a while back. It would give him a little bit of shelter. I really can't afford to buy him one (but I think I might do it any way).

So many pets are victims of the economy.

Oh for sad. He needs to get out of the elements, but you know that already. You could look for a used crate on craigslist or the newspaper or put an ad yourself. You are right about not wanting to invite trouble in your own yard, if the dog is showing food aggression you could end up with a big problem for your own guy.

What a sad thing. I have the view that there are worse things that can happen to an abandoned dog than being put down. Standing in the pouring rain tied up with no shelter is one. Is there a humane society in addition to your local animal shelter?

Another thought is if it looks to be a shepard mix, for example...you can look for breed rescues in Fl. All dog breeds have a breed rescue that is not related to animal control. Decide which breed the dog predominately looks like and give one a call...

Since I'm on the breed rescue bandwagon I should add that breed rescue is a great place to find a dog! I got Rosebud the Dobergirl through the Minnesota Doberman rescue!

He is a pitbull mix.

He has some bush for shade but it is not keeping him dry.

I have posted on the online bulletin board in work begging for a plastic crate. If not we will buy one at Kmart (not the $$ kind)

The crate can be placed against the house and fence (so I would be shielded on 2 sides. The house also has a slight over hang . we can put a tarp over the expposed side.

His family is trying to find a place to live where they can have him. (the owner and I have talked about this). I belive the owner loves the dog. They got him from an elderly man who went to a nursing home.

JD where abouts do you live in FL? There is a great rescue (pit friendly mostly) in the Tampa St Pete area.....Make me go find the address

Are you on facebook? Go to Mid Florida APBTA and also Pit Stop Bully Rescue. They are great rescues that might be able to help you....even with a crate.

I am in Fort Lauderdale.

I found a plastic 2nd hand dog house for $40. I am going to look at when I leave work..

Hopefully baby boy will be warm and dry tonight.

I got the 2nd hand dog house for $30 (I talked her down $10) I tried for $25. I have an old bathroom throw rug in the washer now. Hopefully his owner will come tonight (I have been advised not to go in the yard even though he is very friendly through the fence)

I know I will sleep better once he has his house.
